Relief Viles, neé Relief Reed, widow of John's brother Nathan, and John were married at Waltham between 30 May 1813 and 1 April 1814. They had four children born at Waltham:[1]
In 1850, John Viles, a 73 year old farmer, lived with his wife Relief, and nine others, including children Sam, Augustus, Cynthia, Hannah, and two grandchildren. Two Stearns were also living with the family.[2]
"John, bap. Aug. 11, 1776; m. (1st), Nov, 29, 1804, Lydia Peirce. [Peirce, 156.] He m. (2d), Jan. 21, 1810, Louisa Harrington, who d. Oct, 7, 1811, and he m, (3d), 1814, Relief Viles wid. of Nathan). Chil., 1. Luther, b. Dec. 9, 1805. 2. John, b. May 27, 1817."[3]
The death of John Viles due to a heart complaint was recorded at Waltham on 4 Sept 1851. He was a 78 year old widowed shoemaker born at Waltham.[4][5]
