Biography

Rufus was born in 1816 and passed away in 1878 (Entered by Amber Abernethy, Nov 23, 2011). Rufus married Sarah H. "Sallie" McAfee on 12 October 1839 in Greene County, Tennessee. Rufus and Sarah had 13 known children together. They are: Nathan Fanning, Mariah Jane, Bethia Susan, Martha Carolina, Archable Marion, James Washington, Sophia Elizabeth, John Francis, Sarah Louisa, Mary Florance, Martha Eliza, Virginia Ellen Josephine, and William Rufus.

Rufus King Waddell was the father of William Rufus Waddell, Grandfather of James Hurley Waddell, Great Grandfather of Mary Elizabeth Waddell Barnett Pearson (Libby).

Rufus King Waddle was born in Greene County, Tennessee on December 31, 1816 and died in there on July 20, 1878.

Waddle ran the first stage coach from Hot Springs, Madison County, North Carolina to Greeneville, Greene County, Tennessee.

He was a Justice of the Peace and is listed in Goldene Fillers Burgner's "Greene County, Tennessee Marriages, 1783-1868." He married a lot of people. He owned a large home and was a slave owner.

He helped to establish two churches, Rehobeth Methodist and Beersheba Methodist Church by donating land and building the Beersheba Methodist Church. He was one of the charter members of the Beersheba Masonic Lodge, which was founded August 8, 1873 and the lodge still stands on the land that he donated (contributed by Libby Pearson).
