I am the fourth and last child of the family. There is an 8 year age gap between me and my next sibling. You could say that I am an after-thought. I was born in Barraba, but we moved to Gunnedah when I was nearly one, and we lived there until I was 8. My dad worked as a fencer on many of the large properties around the area, but there was a huge drought during 1965, and the work dried up, so to speak! We moved to Bemont on Lake Macquarie and in 4 years, we had moved 5 times, eventually moving to a 6 acre farm at Wallalong near Maitland. I attended Maitland Girls High School. I became an aunty just three weeks before my 13th birthday. Four more arrived over the next four years. After I left school I attended secretarial college before doing nursing in Sydney, but the country girl in me got very homesick, so I applied at a local hospital! Much better. I got married and had one son. We lived close to my parents, and they spoilt my son terribly! Both of my parents are gone now, their farm has probably been, or going to be sub-divided, and we've moved into town. I can't stand going back to Wallalong now, too many memories.

Thanks for completing the tags indicating you wish to research/document your family history. You are now a confirmed member, and you can get started adding your family members.
As we've said, WikiTree is quite different from other genealogy sites. So, we've put together a guided tour to help you learn how to use it. Your first stop is How to Start Climbing Our Tree.
Tomorrow, you'll hear from a Mentor who will check in to see how you're doing and answer any questions you might have.
Next week, you'll get another message with your next stop on the guided tour.
You can also meet some of our members by joining in the fun with our Question of the Week in the G2G forum: Have you attended a family reunion this summer? Great to have you on board and good luck growing your branches.
Ludwig :)
I was looking at your tag, and I'd like to suggest that you change the tags SURNAMES and LOCATIONS, so that you have at least one tag for each surname or location you are interested to research. For example, one tag for Convery, another for Weston etc. By doing that, you can then click on it and any other surname tags you add and you'll be taken to a page where you'll see other genealogists who are also following those surnames and locations.
Furthermore, any activity associated with those surname tags will be reported in your daily activity list.
In the meantime I will accept your request to become a full WikiTree member.
Kind regards, Ludwig WikiTree Greeter volunteer
A warm welcome to the WikiTree family! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site youve ever used and it is FREE. WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!
What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research youd like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, youll have an opportunity to volunteer and tell us about your genealogical interests.
Once you volunteer, one of our Greeters will be happy to confirm your membership, and youll be on your way!
Were really glad youre here. More importantly, have fun growing your family tree and connecting to persons with the same interest.
Ludwig :)
