Notes

William Wightman's widow, Ruth Bethia, married Stutely Palmer, a neighbor, living at what is now known as Denison's Corners, but known in earlier days as "Whitman Town." The two families of Wightman and Palmer thus brought together were subsequently more closely related through further intermarriage. Eunice Palmer, eldest daughter of the Palmer household had married Humphrey Wightman, son of Abraham Wightman, Junior of German Flatts, a second cousin of William Wightman. The will of Stutely Palmer, Senior names among his heirs Eunice Wightman and also William Wightman and Charles Wightman, the latter being "children of my wife by a former marriage" (Herk. Co. Surr., Bk. E, 232).
