Biography

Colonel Robert Williams served with Virginia during the American Revolution.

Robert Williams is a DAR Patriot Ancestor, A126612.

Robert Williams was born circa 1740 and died after July 16, 1792, in Pittsylvania county, Virginia. Robert served as State Attorney and furnished supplies in support of the Continental Army, for which he filed a claim after the end of the American Revolutionary War. ^[1]

Robert is honored for his Civil Service by the Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, as DAR Ancestor#A126612. DAR records indicate that his wife was Sarah Lanier Williams. Applications for membership in the Society of the DAR have been made by the descendants of their son, Nathaniel Washington Williams, who married Sarah Jane Walton; and of their daughters, Sarah Lanier Williams, who married 1) Michajah Watkins and 2) James Ronald Chalmers; and Martha Williams, who married John Henry. ^[2]

Robert is named in the biography of his brother, Nathaniel Wiliams, born October 5, 1741. ^[3]

Robert Williams was the brother of Col. Joseph Williams, who married Rebecca Lanier (born 1757. Robert Williams married Sarah Lanier (1748-after 1804). Sarah Lanier married twice: 1) Col. Joseph Williams; 2) Robert Williams, his brother. Robert Williams was married four times.

Robert Williams also married Tabitha Gresham and had children: 1) Isaac Williams, 2) Martha m. Henry French, her sons descendants of PATRICK HENRY. ^[4]

This family is in the book I wrote in 1974, "Williams Family History Book" by author Dona (Floyd) Vance, granddaughter of Judge Alvin Luke Williams, of Ft. Worth, Texas and District Judge of Fairbanks and Anchorage, Alaska. His father was inventor French Beard Williams, with many Patents in Washingon, D.C. This family is in my book as well as the Barksdale DAR Records on file in Washington, D.C. Robert Williams is also in the U.S. Find-A-Grave Index, 1600's-Current. He is also listed in the Virginia, Compiled Marriages, 1740-1850, and North America Family Histories, 1500-2000. I am also DNA matched to Roger Williams, b. 1700, founder of Rhode Island, which includes the Lanier families.

Robert was born in 1744. He passed away in 1790.
