Obituary
(2009 July 14) Walter John Witbrodt died on July 3.. He was born in Auburn, MI on September 5, 1916, to Conrad and Mary Witbrodt. He worked on his father's farm until the family moved to Bay City, MI in 1938.
Walter worked at Dow Chemical Co. until he was drafted into the army in 1941. He met his future wife Norma Beth White while he was stationed at Minter field near Bakersfield, and they were married on December 14 1942 in Clovis, NM. After returning from the war, Walt and Norma settled in Bay City MI, where they raised their two daughters, Marilyn and Deanne.
The family moved to Santa Barbara in l958. Walt worked as shop forman for R.P. Richards until his retirement in l981. Walt and Norma traveled to many places worldwide in their retirement years, they were married 62 years. He was a member of Sheet Metal Union #273, and had been a member of Santa Barbara Elks Lodge #613. He moved to the Santa Ynez Valley in 2005 to remain independent, yet be near family.
He survived his wife Norma, brother Richard, and sisters, Viola, Doris, Eva, and Gurtrude. He leaves daughters Marilyn Hart (and husband Don) and Deanne Day. Grandaughters Deedy Hedrick (and husband Scott), Melissa De Leon (and husband Greg), and grandson Sean. He also leaves great grandchildren Isabella, Lyndsey, Sydney, Seth, and Devin. He has two Beloved sisters Francis Henning and Barbara Adcock.
Walt was a quiet, strong, hard working man all of his life, and he treasured his family and friends. He will be loved and missed by all. [23]
