Green was born in 1792. He was the son of Solomon Wood.
Green established the Greenwood Plantation in 1850 in Montgomery County, Texas, bringing his family and several slave families from their previous home in Montgomery County, Alabama. His plantation daily account book, which survives, describes some of the events of the move and the process of planting at the new plantation.
He passed away in 1866.
