Dorcas Smith was born in 1687, a daughter of Benjamin Smith and Jedidah Mayhew Smith of Edgartown, Massachusetts Bay Colony. [1]

On July 24, 1705, in Edgartown, Dorcas married Benjamin Hawes, a son of John Hawes and Desire Gorham Hawes. Children of Dorcas and Benjamin include:

  • Experience Hawes, born November 14, 1706, in Edgartown, died September 19, 1778, in Chilmark, Dukes county, Massachusetts, married Shubael Claghorn
  • Jedidah Hawes, born July 30 1709, in Edgartown, died December 22, 1764, in South Dartmouth, married Jabez Sherman
  • Benjamin Hawes, Jr.
  • Samuel Hawes
  • Shubeael Hawes, born August 2710, died March 12, 1722, in infancy
