Robert Worthington Sr was born in Cheshire, England.
Robert was a Friend (Quaker)

Origin

Robert was born in 1663 at Quarrey Bank, Pownall Fee, Cheshire, England.[1] He was a son of John Worthington and Mary Owen.[1]

Quaker

Robert was a member of the Morely Monthly Meeting, Cheshire England.[1] Later he became a member of the Moate Monthly Meeting in County Westmeath, Ireland.

Robert married Alice Taylor in 1686 at Cheshire, England.[1] Their children were:

  3. John Worthington b 8 Feb 1693
  4. Jacob Worthington b 24 Feb 1695
  5. Ephraim Worthington b. 11 Oct 1697

  7. Martha Worthington b. 24 Dec. 1704
  8. Ezra Worthington b. 12 Dec. 1706
  9. Philip Worthington, b. 8 Aug. 1709
  10. Rachel Worthington b. 27 Sep. 1710

Ireland

In 1695, Robert moved his family from Cheshire, England to Ballegnehee, Kings County, Ireland.[1] From 1695 to 1697, he lived in Ballinakill, County Westmeath, Ireland. In 1711, he removed to Dublin, Ireland, and on 23 June 1713, requested to transfer from Dublin Monthly Meeting to Friends in Pennsylvania.[1]

Pennsylvania

On July 26, 1714, Robert presented his certificate of transfer to Salem Friends. He remained there until 1722 when he requested a certificate to transfer to the Philadelphia Monthly Meeting.[1] Alice died in 1729 inn Philadelphia. Also in 1729, he divided his lands equally between himself and his eight children.[1]

Robert married Mary Burtis in the Friend's Meeting at Burlington New Jersey on the 13th of 6th month, 1729. [2] Their children were[1]:

  2. Martha Worthington b 1731
  3. Robert Worthington Jr. (Colonel) b 1734

Virginia

The family moved to Spotsylvania (later Orange) County, Virginia. [1] The family moved to the Shenandoah Valley where a Lord Fairfax grant was obtained for three thousand acres and the home, "Quarry Banks New Stile," was built a few miles from present day Charles Town, West Virginia. [3]

Death and Legacy

Robert died in October 1735 at Patuxent, Maryland. Robert had been away from his home at the time (he lived Orange County, Virginia).[1] He was buried at Saint George's Chapel Cemetery in Jefferson, Virginia.[4]

Not exact duplicates, one died in Maryland, the other in Virginia on the same date. Resolve this before merging.
