I'm a the great granddaughter of Samuel Wesley Markle. My great great grandfather was Moses Markle. I have 1 picture of Moses and a few pictures of Wesley Markle which is the name the family was so familiar with. I knew him as Grandpap Markle. My mother was a Hartman and named after both of my great grandmothers. Her name is Laura named after Grandpaps wife Laura Michael and her middle name is Rosetta named after my great grandmother Rose Hartman on her father's side. I remember Grandpap Markle well. He was living with my great aunt Marie Rood when he passed. I was about 8 at the time. I would like to get pictures of both my great grandparents in younger times. I only have pictures of Grandpap Markle when he was older in a wheelchair. I hope this helps with your project while answering my questions as well.

Thank you Christine Stornable [email address removed]

At present I have been working on uncovering more information on a number of families participation in the American Revolution ( about 30), Mostly Bailey, Markle, Jacobs, Gardner , McDougal and Grant . Some were loyalitist and some of the families were both loyalist and patriots. Of most intrest are Richard Bailey-12005 and Lt. Rober Gardner-11314 both my 4th-Great-Grand Fathers , served with the Chester County Militia and Washington's Flying Camp. Also of special intres is SGT. Daniel Hennegan-141 Killed at the Seige of Savannah fighting with the French Irish Brigade for the Americans. i would like to see categories developed for both Washington's Flying Camp and the Irish Brigade]]

Hi Lawrence,

Just a comment about Henry & Henrietta Bailey, they were married around 1876/1877. Their first child, Thomas was born in 1877. All 3 are on page 16, line 38 of the Lamar township, Clinton county Pennsylvania census. The family appears on the 1900 census, line 75, notes they’ve been married 23 yrs. The 1910 census says they’ve been married 33 yrs. I’ve found no formal record of their marriage, but since Pennsylvania was a common law marriage state, the fact that they presented themselves as husband & wife in 1880, makes them married whether there’s a license it not. FYI, Henrietta is the sister of my gg grandfather, James H Snyder and my gg grandmother, Catherine Lydia Snyder. I’ve been banging my head against the wall trying to ferret out info on their mother, Mary Anne Houtz, after Abraham passed in 1882.

Hi Lawrence,

I read about your father after finding that you posted about my uncle, Norman Murray Allport, who was a compatriot in the 125th Battalion. He died before I was born, so I did not know a lot about his life during the war. My father was serving in the South Pacific when the 14th Armored Division was invading Bad Neustadt. I did not know they fought in the "Battle of the Bulge". I am sorry that your father was taken prisoner. Sounds like he was a hero and a wonderful man.
