Biography

Catherine came to America by 1654 with her father, Barent Baltus, and his other five children. It is believed that Catherine and Paulus were married around 1660 when Paulus was about 35 and Catherine was about 23. Their first child, Catrina, who married Jacobus Turk, was probably born in 1662.

Catherine appeared before Adrian Van Ilpendam, Notary Public of Albany, together with Andreisz Kuyper, age 30, testifying as to abusive language used by Ludovicus Cobes. Court records state her age at the time (June 27, 1670) as about thirty-two. Catherine was a witneess to a number of baptisms (Jan Guisthout, Baltus Guisthout, Assidius Harberding in New Amsterdam, Sara Turk and Cathalyntje Van Benthuysen in Kingston, and Johannes Van Benthuysen in New York). She was buried in Albany 3/23/1722, according to records of the Reformed Dutch Church of Albany.

There is no certainty as to the order of birth of Catherine and Paulus' children.

  • Catrina, baptized in 1683, married Jacobus Turk
  • Gertrude was referred to as “now Becker” when admitted as a church member in 1683. She married second, James Parker and third, Robert Teuwise Van Deusen.
  • Marten Pauluse married Feitje Boorsboom. His first child baptized in 1697.
  • Maritie married John Careny. Her daughter was baptized in 1702.
  • Baltus Pontese Van Benthuysen married Lydia Dally
  • Barent was baptized in 1708. He married first, Aeltje Elting; second, Jannetie Van Wagenen; third, Margaret Leg.

Van Kleeck as a surname first appeared at the baptism of the son of Baltus Barentse, only son of Barent Baltus, in Bergen, New Jersey, October 6, 1685, the child's name appearing in the record as Peter Van Kleeck. Two years earlier at the burial of Maeckje, their daughter, on June 22, 1683, the father's name was stated as Baltus Barentsen.

Catherine Van Kleeck's father, Barent Baltus, had six children, all born in Holland:

  • Catherine Van Kleeck, born about 1639, m. Paulus Martense Van Benthuysen.
  • Jannetie Van Kleeck, born about 1640, m. first, Jan Guisthout van de Linden; 2nd, Jan Pieterse Bosch.
  • Elsie Van Kleeck, born August l0, 1642, m. Robert Sanders.
  • Baltus Van Kleeck, vain 1644, m. Catherine Jane Buys.
  • Mayken (May) Van Kleeck, born 1646, m. Jan Harberding.
  • Sara Van Kleeck, born 1648, m. Benjamin Provost.[1]

Baptism

Catalyntje, the daughter of Barent Baltus van der Lipstadt and Maryke, was baptized on 18 Jan 1637 in the Haarlem, Noord-Holland Reformed church.

VanKleeck-13 and Van Kleeck-4 appear to represent the same person because: Matching data. Van_Kleeck-4 is the better LNAB, and lowest number.

There are no parents on VanKleeck-13, so that one is OK to merge.

Van Kleeck-15 and Van Kleeck-4 appear to represent the same person because: This is the oldest maternal ancestor in this chain in need of a merge. No tree conflicts. We might keep the name Cathareina and aka Catherine. Keep the death Died March 1722 in Albany,,Albany County,New York. Thanks!
