Biography
Edward was born in 1716. Edward Beard ... He passed away in 1806. [1]
Other family lore indicated that “William Beard from England with two borthers, married Mary ____, and had two sons, James and Edward.” And, “William, father of Edward, came from Aryshire, Scotland to North Ireland, then to America.”
On April 15, 1751 in Augusta County, VA, he Married Mary Bell who was born about 1726 in Ulster? to William Bell (b. 1685 in Northern Ireland, d. August 1757 near Staunton, VA and Mary McGowan). The Bell family was known as the “Stone Church Bells” and were staunch Presbyterians. Mary Bell Beard died on October 19, 1805 in Augusta County, VA. It should also be pointed at that according to D.L. Beard Sr., his Aunt Nettie told him that Edward and Mary married in Scotland or Ireland.
In 1759, Edward and Mary Beard paid Thomas Lorimer thirty pounds for 159 acres of land, part of 179 acres patented to ____, 30 August, 1748 on North River Shanandoe. Delivered: Lorimer, June, 1762.
13th January, 1806. Edward Beard's will - - To son, William; son, Charles; son, Samuel; son, John; to daughter, Elizabeth Craige (of Kentucky); daughter, Mary Henderson (of Kentucky); grandson, James Beard, son to son William; son Charles (of Rockingham). Executor, son William. Teste: James Rankin, Thos. Givens, John Wade, Alex. Gardner. Proved, 23rd June, 1806. Executor qualified.
Will dated 13 Jan 1757. Proved 23 Jun 1806 in Augusta Co., VA.
