How are ya? I'm Matty a WikiTree Mentor. Hope you're enjoying our site. Our primary vision is to build a collaborative tree with just one profile per person, so please make sure to look for duplicates on WikiTree before adding a profile. Having dates and locations attached to every person assists in our mission as well!
Feel free to check out How To Use WikiTree. It's a great step-by-step guide to get you started.
Don't forget our G2G Forum where many of our generous members help each other out.
Hi Kate. Thank you for volunteering to help grow our World Wide Family Tree.
You are now a member of the WikiTree Community. Please note we are trying to build one Collaborative Tree which means one profile per person. It is important to ensure no duplicates are entered as you add any Profiles to WikiTree.
Everything on WikiTree is a collaborative work in progress so dont forget to read and sign our Honor Code. This is what keeps WikiTree a friendly and helpful community. We have many friendly members, feel free to ask if you have any questions.
Hi again Kate. You sound as if you are fairly new to genealogy and could use some help, don't be afraid to ask. Anyway.
Here's a little nudge in the right direction
See How to use WikiTree for how it all works. Check the top right corner under Help and select Help Category
Please drop in to our friendly Genealogist to Genealogist (G2G) forum to introduce yourself to other WikiTreers - you can access the G2G by selecting G2G Profile from your My WikiTree menu at the top right of most pages.
WikiTree can be a bit overwhelming at first, so don't hesitate to post your questions in the G2G.
Good luck with connecting your leaves and branches to our big tree,
Bill :-D
You clicked on the volunteer button indicating that you would like to collaborate and add information. If thats correct please post another comment, here on your profile, including a statement about how you want to contribute and one of WikiTree's Greeters will be happy to add you as a member of WikiTree.
If you are just looking for family or other researchers working on the same names as yours, use the surname search function at the top of the profile page. You are welcome to do this as a guest.
Looking forward to learning new information about the family! I will uphold the honor code, and cooperate fully with others, as I know this is a collaborative effort.
Hi Kate. You can not merge these two profiles, as they do not represent the same person. Not only are the names different, but one was born in the 1920's and the other in the 1950's. Please review the policy on merging profiles, or ask for assistance. In any case you should always contact the profile managers and discuss any pertinent info you may have. Bill :-D Greeter and Arborist
Now that you have had a little time to try WikiTree, there are a few features you may find useful.
Ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards .
If you need to describe an event, heirloom or a location relevant to your research, try Free Space Profiles .
If you run into unresponsive profile managers. We have a process for resolving these unfortunate situations.
A project of note is the Global Family Reunion check it out at Global Family Reunion.
