Biography

Priscilla Brown[1][2] was the daughter of Peter Browne, who came to America on the Mayflower, and Martha (_____), widow Ford, who came to America on the Fortune.[1][2] Priscilla was born in Plymouth about 1628,[2] or 1629.[1]

Priscilla's mother died within a few years of her birth about 1630. When her father died in 1633, a second wife, Mary, who had two children by Peter was named in the distribution of his estate. His inventory was taken 10 October 1633. The Plymouth Court ordered the distribution of his estate "having divers children by divers wives, estate amounting to an hundred pounds or thereabouts.," 15 pounds was allowed for Mary Brown, placed into the care of John Done of Plymouth for nine years. 15 pounds was allowed for Prisilla Brown who was placed with Mr. Will Gilson for twelve years. John Done and William Gilson were to pay the children the 15 pounds at the end of their terms. The remainder was to "the widow having two children by the said Peter together with her own third for bringing up the said children."[3][4][5][2][1]

The Court ended her term with William Gilson, 28 Oct 1645. "Priscilla Browne, daughter of Peter Browne, deceased, haueing accomplished the terme shee was to dwell wth Wm Gilson, of Scittuate, who was to pay her xvli in thend of her terme ; now the said Priscilla came into the Court, and hath chosen John Browne, her vnckle, to be her guardian, and to haue the placeing and disposeing of her vntill the Court shall judg her meete to be at her owne disposeing ; and likewise to take her porčon, vizt, xvli, and to ymproue it by putting it into a breeding stock, and keepe them, and giue her half thencrease, or elš to use it as his owne, and to pay her the said xvli when the Court shall judg it meete for her to haue it at her owne disposeing."[6]

Presilla Browne married William Allen on 21 March 1649 in Sandwich, Massachusetts.[1][7] William Allen, son of George and Catherine (Starkes?) Allen was born in England and died at Sandwich, Massachusetts, 1 Oct 1705.[1]

William Allin, of Cambridge, sold to John Browne, brother of Peter Browne, 30 acres in Duxbury, one part of three, that belonged to Peter Browne. Priscilla wife of William Allin gave her consent.[8]

15 April 1668 William Allen, of Sandwich, sold one third share of property granted to Peter Browne "deceased as a Purchaser or old comer."[1][9][10]

She died sometime after February 17, 1697/98, the date of William Allen's will, which besides his wife Priscilla named a nephew, his brother and "my friends called Quakers." No children were mentioned.[1][11][12]

Oops, my mistake reading too fast. Restored match.

Brown-26760 and Browne-1526 do not represent the same person because: Do not appear to be duplicates. Different parents. Brown-26760 needs research.

As explained in my comment below, they do not have different parents. John and Phebe Brown did not have a daughter named Priscilla. They were the guardians for a few years of Priscilla, the daughter of Peter Brown. The parents of Brown-26760 should be Peter Brown and his wife.

Brown-26760 and Browne-1526 appear to represent the same person because: Brown-26760 had John Brown and Phebe (Harding) Brown as her parents. However, as discussed in Phebe's profile, there is no evidence that John and Phebe had a daughter named Priscilla, but they were guardian's for Priscilla Brown, the daughter of John's brother Peter, for several years before her marriage.

I deleted John Brown and Phebe (Harding) Brown as Priscilla's her parents. As discussed in Phebe's profile, there is no evidence that John and Phebe had a daughter named Priscilla, but they were guardian's for Priscilla Brown, the daughter of John's brother Peter, for several years before her marriage.

This profile should therefore probably be merged with Browne-1526.
