Biography

Abraham Brun was born about 1680 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France, son of Sébastien Brun (abt. 1655–1728) and Huguette Bourg (abt. 1657–bef. 1693).[1]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Abraham, aged 6, was living with his parents, Bastien [sic] BRUN, aged 32, and Hugette [sic] BOURG, aged 28, and his five siblings: Claude, aged 7, Jeanne, aged 9, Vincent, aged 5, Jean [recte Jean Baptiste], aged 4, and Antoine, aged 1. They owned 1 gun, 12 cattle, 12 sheep and 10 hogs.[2]

CENSUS: 1693, Port Royal, Acadia: Sebastien BRUN (widower) 38, Jeanne his daughter 16, Claude 14, Abraham 12, Vincent 11, Jean-Baptiste 9, Anthoine 8, Marie 6; 12 cattle, 20 sheep, 10 hogs, 10 arpents, 1 gun.

CENSUS: 1698, Sebastien BRUN widower 45; Jeanne 22; Claude 20; Abraham 18, Vincent 16, Jean 14; Antoine 13; Marie 20; 10 cattle, 15 sheep, 7 hogs, 21 arpents, 60 fruit trees, 1 gun.

CENSUS: 1700, Sebastien BRUN (widower) 45; Claude 21; Abraham 19; Vincent 18; Jean-Batiste 16; Anthoine 15; Marie 13; 10 cattle, 22 sheep, 10 arpents, 1 gun.

CENSUS: 1701, Bastien BRUN [Sébastien] (widower) [widower of Huguette Bourque] 45; Claude 23, Abraham 22, Vincent 20, Jean 18, Anthoine 16, Marie 13; 1 gun, 15 cattle, 12 sheep, 6 hogs, 12 arpents.

Abraham (20) married Anne Pellerin (16) (born about 1684 in Port-Royal; daughter of Étienne Pellerin and Jeanne Savoie) in 1701 in Port Royal, Acadie.

Known Children:

  1. Magdelaine Brun (1702 - 1751)
  2. Marie-Josephe Brun (1704 - 1757)
  3. Charles Brun (1706 - ~1755)
  4. Anne Brun (1708 - 1764)
  5. Marguerite BRUN 1 b: 14 Nov 1709 in Port Royal, Acadia c: 15 Nov 1709 in Port Royal, Acadia, died 8 days later
  6. Marguerite BRUN b: 8 Jan 1711 in Port Royal, Acadia c: 9 Jan 1711 in Port Royal, Acadia
  7. Joseph Brun (1712 - ~1768).

In the 1703 census in Port-Royal, the young couple was recorded with one boy (which appears to be an error), one girl and one arms bearer. There was no known son born in this family before Charles.[3] Stephen White in DGFA p. 292 lists only one girl and one arms bearer for this census.[4] In the original census, p. 2, difficult to decipher because it is blurred, the column for boys does not seem to indicate a number.

He died in July 1713, aged about 40 years and was buried 9 July 1713 at Port Royal, Acadia.[5][6]
