I'm very new to genealogy and I'm really getting overwhelmed by the misinformation that is on Ancetry.com, which is where I have done the majority of my search. WikiTree is very challenging, but I'm finding it addicting,

Hello Rebecca! Family member, here! My 2nd great grandparents are Granville and Martha Gray. Their daughter, Pearl, is my great grandmother. Pearl's son, Enoch, is my grandfather. I'd love to find more connections as my family rarely, if ever, spoke about anyone. Unfortunately, there's not many left of us in Arkansas that can tell me much, if anything. Hope to hear from you soon!

Hi Kendra. It's always good to hear from another family member. Afraid I'm not in Arkansas. Born and raised in California. Are familiar with the Facebook page - Gray Family News - https://www.facebook.com/groups/1499335180381465/members? Not a lot of activity but I believe a lot of the members are in Arkansas.
I signed up on a few sites a while back ago trying to find more information, but I didn't get very far. It's good to see how much has changed. I sent a request to be added to the Facebook page. Thank you for extending the page information! I remember my grandpa Phillips calling his family in California, nearly every weekend, when long distance wasn't cheap. He showed me a few pictures he had, but other than that, there wasn't much mentioned. All of his siblings moved to California and they stayed, except for one brother and one sister. I have three uncles and some cousins left in Arkansas, from this side of the family. It'd be really nice to somehow get to know more family. I appreciate you replying!

Pearl was my mother's aunt. She mentioned Aunt Pearl a few times. As I've worked on our family tree I've noticed that family members from both sides have migrated to California. My father and 3 siblings (out of 6 children) all moved to California as young adults. It was definitely the land of opportunity. Right now I'm concentrating on my Dad's side of the family but I'm gathering family pictures from everywhere I can. You can look at any pictures I have uploaded so far at Gray Family Photos and Sources.
HI Rebecca, Independence County page has been worked on, Space pages are never actually completed. If there is anything you would like to add, put in a trust request and I'll get it asap. https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Independence_County_Arkansas

Hi Rebecca,

My maiden name is Maple, and I see you have been busy on that part of your tree. My profile is Maple-692, and my brother is in charge of the Maple Study. Have you contacted him? Your fifth cousin, once removed, Julie Tremblay

Hi Julie,

I have had the pleasure of communicating with Bruce. The work he has done on Maple genealogy is fantastic and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the information that he has accumulated. The Maple line is the most complete line in my family history, and Bruce is to thank for it. Thanks for contacting me cousin. Rebecca Wooster

Hi Rebecca!

When I saw you were looking for parents of Gade Gadi Gray born in 1788, it made me think of my own brick wall, George G Gray born about 1780 in either Pennsylvania or Virginia. I've always wondered what George's middle initial stands for.

I had my uncle's Y-DNA tested and found a match whose earliest ancestor was born in 1785 in (now) Ohio County, West Virginia but married in 1816 in Monroe County, West Virginia. That's not too far from Clay County, Kentucky. I've found other Grays between Monroe County, WV and Roanoke, VA in the late 1700s. It hasn't helped me figure out my own brick wall, but I do wonder if you and I are very distantly related. I've had my DNA tested at Ancestry also (along with several other DNA sites), but I don't find you as a match. Could it possibly be because our MCRA was waaaaay back? I don't know. Anyhow, the point is that you might find some Grays in the 1700s in lower Virginia - I hope it will help you break down your brick wall.

By the way, my uncle's Y-DNA points to my line of Grays originally (from the 1500s or so) being Barclays from Aberdeenshire, Scotland.

Hi Ida,

Thank you for your reply. Aren't brick walls frustrating? I currently have one in my Gray family line which is on my Mother's side and another in my Conner line which is on my Father's side. I just keep hunting.

I will certainly look in lower Virginia. Despite the primitive roads and transportation available I have found that our ancestors managed to travel quite a bit. It's understandable, really, when you realize most of them immigrated and then spread out looking to make a home for themselves and their families. Most of the Grays and Conners seem to be farmers so they definitely would have been trying to get somewhere that offered good farm land that they could gain possession of either through land grants or homesteading.

Good look with George G and I'll keeping looking for Gade Gade.

Happy Hunting, Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.
