My maiden name is Maple, and I see you have been busy on that part of your tree. My profile is Maple-692, and my brother is in charge of the Maple Study. Have you contacted him? Your fifth cousin, once removed, Julie Tremblay

I have had the pleasure of communicating with Bruce. The work he has done on Maple genealogy is fantastic and I have thoroughly enjoyed reading the information that he has accumulated. The Maple line is the most complete line in my family history, and Bruce is to thank for it. Thanks for contacting me cousin. Rebecca Wooster
When I saw you were looking for parents of Gade Gadi Gray born in 1788, it made me think of my own brick wall, George G Gray born about 1780 in either Pennsylvania or Virginia. I've always wondered what George's middle initial stands for.
I had my uncle's Y-DNA tested and found a match whose earliest ancestor was born in 1785 in (now) Ohio County, West Virginia but married in 1816 in Monroe County, West Virginia. That's not too far from Clay County, Kentucky. I've found other Grays between Monroe County, WV and Roanoke, VA in the late 1700s. It hasn't helped me figure out my own brick wall, but I do wonder if you and I are very distantly related. I've had my DNA tested at Ancestry also (along with several other DNA sites), but I don't find you as a match. Could it possibly be because our MCRA was waaaaay back? I don't know. Anyhow, the point is that you might find some Grays in the 1700s in lower Virginia - I hope it will help you break down your brick wall.

Thank you for your reply. Aren't brick walls frustrating? I currently have one in my Gray family line which is on my Mother's side and another in my Conner line which is on my Father's side. I just keep hunting.
I will certainly look in lower Virginia. Despite the primitive roads and transportation available I have found that our ancestors managed to travel quite a bit. It's understandable, really, when you realize most of them immigrated and then spread out looking to make a home for themselves and their families. Most of the Grays and Conners seem to be farmers so they definitely would have been trying to get somewhere that offered good farm land that they could gain possession of either through land grants or homesteading.
Good look with George G and I'll keeping looking for Gade Gade.
Happy Hunting, Rebecca
Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.
Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

We are so happy you decided to upgrade to the Family Member level.
Please visit our tutorial pages to learn how to use WikiTree: How To Use WikiTree. They will save you time, energy, and frustration as you add your family profiles.
Exploring the site is the best way to learn. One way to do that is to check out the drop-down menus on the top right side of your profile page. Finding a known ancestor and collaborating with the profile manager is another great way to start.
Questions? You can always use the G2G link in the Help Menu to find answers.
