Hi Pieter,

I'm always so excited to bump into another member searching for their South African roots that I just had to stop by and say hi!

Perhaps you would like to join the South African Roots Project? Besides links to sources, there are help pages that might also be useful. Many / most of the South African genealogical lines and profiles of the eighteenth and seventeenth periods (and earlier) have already been made. Many have also been validated with primary sources.

Thank you for all your fantastic contributions, we value every one. It would be awesome if you'd join us!

If you ever have any questions about how WikiTree works please don't hesitate to let me know.

Have a super evening...and I hope to bump into you again soon.

Hi Pieter, I reset the bio of Wolterus de Vos (1689-bef.1731). Please do not remove the contributions of other wikitree members, as you did here. I trust that you did not do it on purpose, but in this project we collate data, we do not remove the data of others. I added your source & data in collaborative fashion as is prescribed by the protocols of our projects. For more information also see here ...

Dagsê Philip, ek vra om verskoning, maar verkeerde inligting hinder my.

Dis nie 'verkeerde' inligting nie; dis net inligting.

In English - we decided in this project that we would collate data using (when editing the bio's of the project profiles - also during the countless mergers because of duplicates created), the so-called Scholarly Method and specifically the Historical Method. This translates into the practical protocol of signing our edits of the collated facts with our names, dates and the sources used, and subscribing / adhering to discipline in using this method.

It is much easier validating profiles in a resources rich environment as the The Dutch Cape Colony Project and the South African Roots Project has.

Hi, I am Dorothy, a WikiTree mentor!! Are you enjoying your time on WikiTree so far?

Now that you have had a little time to try our site, there are a few more features you may find useful:

For instance, ideas on what to include in a profile can be found in Styles and Standards; including some tips on writing biographies

Also a friendly reminder about adding sources and references to your profile. Sources are critically important for genealogy and you will be helping future genealogists by listing where the information you've added came from. This page describes different kinds of sources: http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Sources

If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Hello Pieter,

Welcome to WikiTree! The initial email from us has helpful links that will get you started on WikiTree, which is not like any genealogy site you’ve ever used.

WikiTree is different because our goal is to have one profile per person, and that means we all work together as a BIG collaborative team!

What brings you to WikiTree? Do you have research you’d like to share? Are you interested in how your family fits into the big tree? When you confirm your email address, you’ll see a Volunteer option on your profile page. Click that and leave us a short message here on your profile about your genealogical interests. A Greeters Project volunteer will be happy to confirm your membership.

Welcome to the family! We’re really glad you’re here.
