Biography

Abraham Errington immigrated to New England as a child during the Puritan Great Migration (1621-1640).

Abraham Errington was baptised on 16 Jun 1622 at All Saints Newcastle, Northumberland, son of William Errington. He deposed in 1673 that he was about 51,[1] and his wife Ann Liddell. It is assumed that his father, William died after 14 April 1634, when he was mentioned in his brother's Will.[2] His mother Widow Ann Errington was in New England by 1638.[3]

Abraham was married in 1649 or 1650 in Cambridge, Middlesex County, to Rebecca Cutler, daughter of Robert Cutler of Charlestown,[4].

At the Church of Christ at Cambridge, "Abraham Errington admitted into full Communion March. 27, 1663. Rebecca Errington (the wife of Abraham Errington) daughter to Robert Cutler of Charlestowne is member in full Commuion with us. Her children Rebecca Errington Hannah Errington Sarah Errington all baptized in this Church. Mary baptized Januar. 13, 1660. Abraham baptized Novemb. 8. 1663."[5]

Abraham Errington died in Cambridge on May 9, 1677 at the age of 55, He was buried in the Old Burying Ground, in Cambridge,

Research Notes

Early New England Harrington Families
One of the difficulties in dealing with the New England Harrington families is to keep them separate. There were at least 3 early Harrington families.
1. ROBERT HARRINGTON of Watertown, born in England in 1616, who settled in Watertown in 1634.
2. ABRAHAM HARRINGTON of Cambridge, whose male descent died out in a generation or two.
3. BENJAMIN HARRINGTON of Providence, Rhode Island, an entirely different family, possibly though not necessarily, related to the other two. This family generally spelled the name Herrington or Herrenden. Robert and Benjamin each had numerous descendants. Generally speaking, Robert's descendants remained in eastern Massachusetts, chiefly in Middlesex and Worcester counties, for several generations. Benjamin's descendants were to be found in Rhode Island and easten Connecticut during the same early period. They also began to expand geographically westward and northward, so that by the time of the Revolutionary War, the descendants of these two pioneers often lived in the same towns, especially north and west of the Rhode Island border, and occasionally they intermarried.
Frequently, they used the same Christian name, Benjamin, Edward, Robert, Joseph, David, Samuel, Daniel and John being favorites in both families.

I was working in Wiki this evening and I did adopt a profile but not this one. I have no relationship to this person. I removed myself as profile manager. Thanks

Note ... interesting that one of his dau. married into the Gibson family. The Erringtons & Gibsons had a seat in Northumberland.

Bob, Apparently, this may be an old conflation of several families perpetuated in Harrington genealogies. This is what I have found: The Abraham Errington of Cambridge was born in about 1622, the son of William Errington and Rebecca Liddell. He was baptized in 1622 at All Saint's Newcastle. He came to America with his widowed mother and his sister some time before he married in about 1649. His only known sibling in American was his sister, Rebecca. He did not have a brother Benjamin. So, the "1630 to Massachusetts on the 'Prosperous' cannot be correct.
