Obituary MR. WM GILL Mr. William Gill. a well-known resident of the Lower Manning, passed away on Saturday last, after a few days' illness. The cause of death was double pneumonia and pleurisy. Deceased was born on the Hunter River 69 years ago, and came to Jones' Island with his parents when he was two years old. In his youth deceased went fossicking on the goldfields and spent some time on the Calls River and at Cooplacurripa. He carried on a butchering business for very many years, his son finally taking over its management. Some years ago he had a fall from a horse and had to have portion of one of his legs amputated near the knee. The late Mr. Gill was of a very kindly disposition and had many sincere friends on the river. He is survived by a widow and the following children: Messrs W. H., Albert and Victor (Jones Island); Mrs. Collins (Jones' Island), Mrs. W. A. Latham (Taree), Mrs. Williams (Bowraville) and Miss Alma Gill (at home). The remains were interred in the Mitchell's Island cemetery, on Sunday at 2 p.m. The last sad rites were performed by the Rev. Harold Skuse (Methodist) and Mr. S. Levick carried out the funeral arrangements, in which Mr. Howard's motor hearse was used. During his illness deceased was nursed by his wife, who collapsed on the punt when returning from the funeral. Pneumonia developed, and on Monday she was brought to the Mayo Hospital. The family are indeed passing through a sad time. On Tuesday morning Mrs Gill's condition was slightly better. |
