Jeanne Henry was born around 1656 in Cobeguit, Acadie, Nouvelle-France.[1]
Jeanne (23) married Jean Gaudet (26) (born about 1653 in Port Royal, Acadie; son of Jean Gaudet and Nicole Colleson) in 1680 in Pisiguit, Acadie.[1] Their known children were:
Jeanne appeared twice in the 1686 census at Port Royal.[2]
First, in 1686, at Port Royal, Jeanne HENRY, aged 30, was living with her husband, Jean GODET [sic], aged 45 [sic], and their children: Francoise, aged 13, and Jean, aged 12. Also living with them were 3 other children from Jean's first marriage. Jean's mother Nicole COLSON [sic], aged 80, was living with them also. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 4 cattle, 4 sheep and 3 hogs.
Second, in 1686, at Port Royal, Jeanne, aged 21 [sic], was living with her husband, Jean GODET [sic], aged 33, and their children: Marie, aged 4, and Jeanne, aged 1. Also living with them were two children from her husband's first marriage: Francoise, aged 13, and Jean, aged 12. The family owned 2 guns and was living on 4 arpents of cultivable land with 10 cattle, 17 sheep and 4 hogs. Census 1686, Port Royal, Acadia, age 30 years. [The 3 other children not specified must be hers, from the second marriage, and not from the first as the census taker stated: "et 3 autres de sa femmes en premieres nopies." Or from her husband's 1st marriages?] Also: another listing one page later, she is age 21 years (sic). Her mother-in-law is gone, and the children are listed correctly. Only 2 from her marriage are named, however. Is this a correction, or following a death?
Census 1693, Port Royal, Acadia, husband Jean GODET is listed as a widower.
DNA. The Mothers of Acadia Maternal DNA project is conducting ongoing research to verify their origins by testing the daughters of their descendants. In 2010, Stephen White reported that Jeanne Henry had a Haplogroup X2a2. I don't know the details re how many of her descendants were tested to support this report. Ongoing test results are also reported here. As of May 2014, 1 descendant has reported a X2a2 haplogroup, indicating Amerindian origins.
She died in 1705.[citation needed]
