Hello Jack,

Thanks for your message regarding the Cheshire Hilton family.

I think that Witton is a parish of Northwich, so the distance to Birkenhead would be about 25 miles - entirely possible for migration over that distance to have taken place sometime between the 1500s and the 1900s.

"My" Hiltons are very distant cousins by marriage. I'm currently in the process of updating profiles and privacy levels for everything on my Watchlist, working backwards from present day, so will get to the 19th century Hiltons eventually.

Best wishes.

Sue, Thanks for the Reply, it's appreciated! Good Luck w/your Project! We may eventually discover a Connection! (Grin)) Be Well, Jack.

Hi Jack, you are an Angel! This gives me hope. I know my Dads side came from Ireland.

I have heard that they were from County Cork. I don't know if that's correct. Thats, I knew until now. From 23-Me I found that I have reltives in MA, NH and NY.

Hi Jack

Thanks for your message. I’m afraid none of those names you gave me are shared. It seems that my people were attached to the naval base in Berehaven and so were all English, although I also have a couple of Irish convicts - but mostly from Dublin.

Anyway, all the best, and happy searching,

Hey there, thanks for all the thank-yous on my MacDonald-via-Kennedy family; some of them were copying a source that made a blunder and then going back and fixing it and really didn't deserve thank-yous, but thank you anyway. Merry Christmas!

See your encouraging “Thank You”s pop up as I continue reworking what I already have. To address your message of a couple of days ago . . . nothing new on my direct ancestor. Being very cautious as the name is so common. Taking a break and tackling the Hilton’s from another angle. Maybe that will help. Good Luck as you continue your search.

Jack, thanks for your message. John will be pleased to know about that link, even if we are 21st cousins! He has had a DNA test with Ancestry, but I've not made the results available on Wikitree just yet. Seems to me our last communication from Ancestry made him something like 70% Scottish! The Germans/Austrians/Swiss were small potatoes in comparison. I've seen a tree linking John 's paternal family to Egbert, first King of England, but the documentation was rather questionable. Ah, well -- long winter ahead and lots of time to dig. Be well.

Hi Jack,

Thanks for your message. My DNA results state that I am 61% England and Northwestern Europe. 19% Scotland. 12% Ireland. 6% Wales. 2% Germanic Europe. I have Eastern New York and Connecticut Settlers. President Franklin Pierce is my 4th cousin 5x's removed. President Rutherford B. Hayes is also my 4th cousin 4x's removed. John Griffith Chaney, the American Author of "White Fang" and "Call of the Wild" is my 3rd cousin 2x's removed. Elizabeth Ann Jackson How(e) is my 10th Great Grandmother who was executed and hanged at the Salem Witch Trials in Salem, Mass in 1692. The Romans, Anglo-Saxons, Vikings, and Normans are also part of my DNA results. I have alot of Knights Templers and freemasons in my ancestry research. I am still digging and researching deeply into my roots. I am an ancestor of Elizabeth Tilley from the Mayflower.

Sarah, Thanks for the Reply! I too have Viking Lines, 2 that I know of, One's Hrolfr the Ganger, Rollo, Robert I Duc de Normandie, leading to William the Bastard, Duc de Normandie, I of England & Rurik, I Grand Prince of Novgorod & Kiev/Kyiv, leading to Grand Prince Yaroslav I, the Wise, who married Estrid of the Obdorites, they had Princess Anna/Anne Yaroslavna, who married Henri Capet I, King of France, they had Philip Capet I, King of France & on down the Line! I had a Roman once, but have since lost him, I think that he was on my Hilton Line, he was from around 500 AD. Charlemagne is my 33rd Gg'father, I descend through his Son, Carloman. I'm sure that there a more Royals, especially among the Scandinavians! DNA testing shows me as Irish Scots, Welsh 55% & Scandinavian 45%, that was FamilySearch & MyHeritage! I've done Ancestry DNA testing for the 3rd time noe, they screwed up the 2 prior tests! Hopefully, the Results will be more definitive. Oh forgot the FitzGerald Earls of Kildare are also my Cousins! I'm sure there's more, but that's all that I can remember off the Top of my Head! I have over 30 Ancestors, who were on the Mayflower, Elizabeth Tilley Howland, 7 her Parents & Husband are also Kin! Don't know about any Templars, but maybe? Be well, Jack

I'd like to burn Cotton Mather at the Stake, see how he likes it! I've 2 Viking Lines, One is Hrolfr the Ganger, Rollo, Robert Premier Duc de Normandie, leading to William the Bastard, the Conqueror, I, King of England! Harold II on the Anglo-Saxon Side is also a Cousin! The other Viking Line is Rurik, 1st Grand Prince of Rostov, Novgorod & Kiev/Kyiv, that leads to Yaroslav I, the Wise, Married to Ingegerd Skoetkonungsdottir, Daughter of King Olof of Sweden, whose Daughter, Princess Anna/Anne Yaroslavitch married Henri Capet , King of France, they had Philip Capet I, King of France! Many more Lines as Well! HRH Charlemagne is my 33rd Gg'father! And so on. All of that Royalty & Nobility & $2.50 may get me a Cup of Dunkins! (GRIN) Be well, Jack.

Hey cuz - thanks for reaching out! Ironically, it was a Hilton (unrelated , as far as I know - a coworker) in California who spurred me into filling in the blanks on my ancestry, back in the late 90's.

If you've got any Hilton's in Kentucky or Georgia, there's a Kentucky challenge going on right now, and I have come across some...https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/1592825/wikitree-challenge-research-kentucky-genealogical-society

Hi Jack, I am afraid I don’t have any further information for you than in my response below, a few months back.

I see that we are both descendants of John Wildes of 1618 as you mentioned. But, my direct line from John Wildes does not have any Hiltons that I can find.

I don’t know how to answer your question as to “why” there is no closer connection within our Hilton our ancestry. 1590 is a long way back; and I’m a comparative newbie to genealogy.

You might try posting on G2G if you have a particular brick wall.

Pamela, Thanks for the reply! I don't have any particular concern, just the proverbial curiousity! (grin) Be well, Jack

Jack,

I received your message. So far I am only familiar with the Andries' that settled in Louisiana in 1853. As far as the name goes, Andros may be a corruption of Andries. I know there are a dozen variant spellings. As far as the Hiltons go, my great (3x) grandfather, James Hilton was born in 1800 or 1801 in South Carolina. I believe James' father was James Helton, born in 1765 in London England.

Hi Jack. Thanks for your note!

Your ancestors look much more exciting than mine. My McRaes were from Glenelg and Kintail, both in the Highlands, and probably come from a long line of tenant farmers. They came to Canada in the 1820's, settled in Ontario, and continued farming for at least the first generation. The two families intermarried and my great-grandfather took the family to Michigan for the lumbering. They later moved to Oregon for the same reason. I'm looking for records in Scotland, but they are scarce in the Highlands for this time period.

posted by Melinda McRae
Melinda, Hello again! Good luck searching the Highlands! I was just luck that someone (I think that it was Alan Lundy?) who was kind enough to give me details about Alexander MacDonald changing the name & that his G'father & father were from Cove, Nigg, Kincardine Shire. They were Quarymen mining Granite, while he among other occupations decided to be a Farmer! Again, Good Luck! Be well, Jack

Hello Jack,

With regards to your relationship question: Once logged in, you can use the "Connections to me" feature and discover that information on connected profiles.

For example, we are not directly related, but have a 20-degree connection. I imagine as you extend the branches of your family tree and make more connections, that number might become smaller. Cheers - Judi Stutz

Hi Jack,

Thanks for reaching out. Got your messages to me from sent from my profile and the profile of Lewis Hilton-5008. Did find several ways I descend from William Hilton-18. None from the same child as you.

Got stuck at William Hilton-3967 as I became aware there MAY be more than one William Hilton “Love” Moody connection around the same time.

Must admit I’m rather an “armchair” genealogist; and you have great deal more research. Congratulations on having over 1000 connections, especially in such a short period of time on WikiTree!!

Enjoy your journey!

Pam, Thanks for the reply! It's a interesting world! Foubd out that one of my ancestors, the English Poet, Sir Thomas Wyatt, was responsible for he & Anne Boleyn getting their heads lopped off, Henry VIII thought they were having an affair! Also a British man, Rowland somebody or the other, was buened at the stake for being a Protestant, by order of Mary, Queen of Scots! Be well, Jack
posted by Jack Hilton
Pam, I was wrong in saying Mary Queen if Scots, it was Mary Tudor, daughter of Katherine of Aragon & Henry VIII. Bloody Mary as she was called! Just another Tudor. Be well, Jack

Pam, Upon more thought the one burned at the stake was Rev. Rowlamd Taylor, Be well, Jack

Hi Jack from Australia. I am sorry to deflate you but I am none the wiser for what your mentioned in your message. If you think you are related to my Maher lineage I will need to see some evidence. My lineage is pretty thoroughly documented back to late 1700s. You are not the first person to believe they are connected to my Maher lineage. Please don't take this negatively, I am just giving you fair warning that it sounds like you may have stumbled into a "rabbit hole" of the genealogical variety. I will be happy to proven wrong if you have sources to prove your theory. Until then, it is just a theory.

William, Thank you for your reply/msg. Mary Maher/Meagher?. I don't know where the idea or thought came from? Just like the fact that I have 2 Native American wives, somewhere in my line? Don't know where that came from either? But the surnames Maher & (O')Sullivan are in yheir somewhere, may come from my visit to Co. Cork, Ireland years ago, where I had lunch w/2 sisters in Micheltown (sp?) & the sister whise house it was, directed me to the head of the stairs, where there was a portrait of my GGGg'mother or GG oe G'gmother, Mary (O')Sullivan Sheehan was! thoroughly confused now! Maybe that's why I'm hiring an Irish Genealogist, W/knowledge of Cork from Dublin! Be well< jack MacDonald-Hilton from Worcester, Mass, USA.

William, Hope you're well? Well I did hire the Genealogist, she found nothing more than what I already knew & cost me 70 Euros! Back to the drawing board, Mary Maher was John Sheehan's wife! He died in the Cork Work House of Pneumonia in 1882. Before the wedding I mentioned. Be well, Jack

William. Good to hear from you! Thanks for the reply! I'm not stuck on William Maher being in my line! It took me the longest time to find John Sheehan's wife's name! The Fitzgerald Sheehan lines in Co. Cork are a bear to try to untangle! It wasn't that long ago that I learned that he had died in the Cork Workhouse, so he was obviously a Pauper! So not necessarily a match, but I do know all of it happened in Co. Cork, not always Cork City. Be well, Jack MacDonald-Hilton

Hi Jack,

thank you for contacting me about your MacDonald ancestors. The record I have for Alexander Macdonald is that he died age 56 and was single. He is recorded as single in the 1871 census as head of household. With him his sister Anne, also single and a couple named Donald and Catherine Beaton who are said to be nephew and niece respectively of Alexander, plus their infant son Murdo Beaton-1364, MacBeath-62 [1]

Just because both his records show him as single does not mean he didn't have children. Do you have a cord for Alexander marrying anyone or living in the same household of anyone other than his sister? Best regards, Moira
