Biography

Kent (historic flag)
Dorothy (Honeywood) Croke was born in Charing, Kent, England.

Research

As William Croke and his wife Dorothy Croke lived until 1642, it is not possible that Dorothy then married Henry Thompson in 1589. As Henry Thompson died in 1648, it is not possible that Dorothy then married William Croke. As Dorothy Croke was buried in Chilton with William Croke, it is not possible that she was buried at Lenham with Henry Thomson five years later.

This Dorothy (L in the Posterity list), daughter of Mary Atwater, was the wife of William Croke. The Dorothy married to Henry Thompson, (AA in the Posterity list) was the daughter of Dorothy Crooke Honywood, first daughter of the first wife of Mary Atwater's son Robert. She is Honywood-121.

Accordingly, references to Honywood-121 Dorothy Thompson and her family have been removed from this profile.

This profile is completely impossible. It conflates two persons - Dorothy daughter of Mary Atwater, who married William Croke, and Dorothy daughter of Dorothy Crooke, who married Henry Thompson. See The Genealogical History of the Croke Family [1] from which most of the information on this family in the Topographer and in the Posterity reduction is taken.

Since this profile is already linked to the Atwater parents and none exists of the Crooke parents, I propose to create a new profile for the later Dorothy and transfer the Thompsons to it.

Honeywood-1 and Honeywood-16 appear to represent the same person because: Same parents. Dorothy was married twice. First to William Croke, then to Henry Thompson as documented in "The Topographer and Genealogist" EDITED BY JOHN GOUGH NICHOLS, F.S.A. Lond. & Newc., Vol. 1, p 402. The birth date needs further research and should be marked as such. I find no record of the spelling of her name as Dorathy.

THE POSTERITY OF MARY HONYWOOD

Use Dorothy Honywood on your edit finder there is a chapter for her and her children and the correct spelling of both her and her husbands ....

Honeywood-1 and Honywood-1 appear to represent the same person because: They should be merged with any discrepencies, such as the spelling of the last name, noted.

Honywood-1 and Honeywood-1 are not ready to be merged because: as mentioned, I'm postponing the merge I proposed pending decision on name & merge of profiles for father

Honeywood-1 and Honywood-1 appear to represent the same person because: Hi! These profiles are obviously for the same person, but the profiles for their father's are duplicates & will need to be merged first. Also, which is the correct spelling for this family at the time? Richardson uses Honeywood, but he tends to standardize names. I didn't see the name in the fine print of his sources for the the entry I found that mentioned her.

Anyway, I wanted to propose the merge so that managers of both profiles received an e-mail notice, but I'll postpone it because the name needs to be resolved, then the fathers, then their profiles can be merged.

Also... same question on the spelling of husband Henry's name.

Thanks!

Richardson's Magna Carta Ancestry (SCOTT #17) mentions Dorothy, daughter of Robert Honeywood, Esq. as mother of Judith Thompson (Judith baptized at Lenham, Kent on 2 Aug. 1602 - Judith being daughter of Henry & wife of Thomas Scott of Kent, baptized 1605).

Honeywood-16 and Honywood-1 are not ready to be merged because: different mothers

Cousin Renee,

Thank you for pointing that out. I have changed her birth to 1569. Apparently I had a choice when I merged Honeywood-5 with Honeywood-1 and chose the 1572. Neither date has certainty, and I have marked it as such.
