Mewes Junge, born 26 November 1856 in what is now known as Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, was the son of Hans Junge[1] and Gesche Dolling.[2]
He served in the German Army for 3 years[2] and later farmed. When he was 24, he emigrated from Germany, originating in St. Margrethen, Holstein, departing from Hamburg Germany on 14 April 1880 aboard the Suevia and arriving in New York City.[3][4] His parents and siblings emigrated from Germany in May 1883.
Mewes became a naturalized United States citizen on 11 September 1888 at Benton County District Court in Vinton, Iowa.[2][5]

April 1916 - Keystone, Benton, Iowa, USA - Lewis [Mewes], Hans and Peter Junge all resided in Keystone, Iowa per obituary of their mother.
1920 - Kane, Benton, Iowa, USA - Junge household: Mewes 63 and Emma 56.[10]
1925 - Keystone, Benton, Iowa, USA - Junge household: Merves 68 and Emma 61.[11]
Mewes died 20 July 1934 in Keystone/Kane Township, Benton County, Iowa,[1][2] after suffering a stroke.[14] He was buried at Keystone Cemetery in Keystone, Benton County, Iowa.[14][15]
