Biography

Hinrich "Henry" Junge, the son of Hans Junge and Gesche Dolling, was born on 16 Aug 1876[1] in Sankt Margarethen, Steinburg, Schleswig-Holstein, Germany.[2]

Heinrich immigrated to the United States with his family at age 4. The family originated in Lansheide, Schleswig-Holstein, departed from Hamburg on 24 May 1883 aboard the "Polaria", and arrived in New York, New York on 13 Jun 1883.[3] Steerage passengers traveling were: Hans 51, Gesche 46, Maria 18, Gesche 17, Peter 14, Anna 9, Lena 8, Heinrich 4, and Emma 6 months.[4]

Henry married Alvena Stine in Toledo, Tama County, Iowa on 25 Sep 1900.[5][6] They had six children:[5]

  2. Henry, b. 19 Feb 1903, d. 29 Dec 1969, m. Norma Feuerbach, 1 ch.;

  5. Hilda, b. 4 Jul 1914, m1. Leroy Selk (1 ch.), m2. Eldon Goodwin (2 ch.), m3. Donald Kinnard;
  6. Darlene, b. 30 Apr 1927, m. Melvin Foley, 2 ch..

Henry died in 1948 and was buried at Dysart Cemetery in Dysart, Tama County, Iowa.[7] His obituary was published in the Dysart Reporter on 26 Aug 1948 follows:[8]

Henry Junge, 72 Has Fatal Stroke
"On Tuesday afternoon at two o'clock funeral services for Henry Junge, Sr., 72, were conducted at the home in Dysart with Rev. P.W. Pfaltzgraff, pastor of the Van Horne Lutheran church, officiating. Mr. Junge died August 21 of a stroke suffered on Monday. Miss Nelda Schlue and Mrs. Dean Curtis, Van Horne sang "In the Garden" and "Rock of Ages". Casket bearers were Rudy Homire, Ed Junge, Lester Selk, Ben Eggers, Arlen Lorenzen and Elmer Stein. Interment was in the Dysart cemetery.
Mr. Junge was born August 16, 1876 in Schleswig-Holstein, Germany. He came with his parents to America at the age of seven. The family located on a farm near Keystone, where he grew to manhood. On Sep 25, 1900 he married Alvena Stein. The couple engaged in farming near Keystone then moved to Butterfield, Minn., where they farmed two years. On returning to Iowa they bought a farm three miles southwest of Dysart where they farmed until they retired to Dysart in 1912. Surviving are two sons, Eldo and Henry, Jr. of Keystone; three daughters, Mrs. Lester Fink of Traer, Mrs. Eldon Goodwin and Mrs. Melvin Foley of Dysart.
He was preceded in death by his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Elmer Schuldt, Dysart."
