In 1845 John Douglas Lewis and his wife Elizabeth Stout Lewis crossed the Oregon Trail with their children and several grandchildren. One of the granddaughters, Elizabeth Ann Lewis, married a Daniel Miller Boone.
Jeremiah V. Lewis, son of John and Elizabeth, crossed with his wife Narcissa Corbin Lewis. After she died he married Catherine Blakely; she was the daughter of my gr gr grandfather Captain James Blakely.
Now; guess who Daniel Miller Boone is related to?

John Douglas Lewis was baptized on Oct. 8, 1782 Northumberland Co., Virginia according to the records of St. Stephens Parish Church of Northumberland Co., VA. According to his donation land claim application in Oregon he was born on 1787 in Richmond Co., Virginia. His original tombstone in the Locke Cemetery says 1785. A reputable genealogist, James F. Lewis, says some of the confusion as to the place of his birth comes from the fact that the probable place (where his father owned land at the time) was in the present community of "Village" which sits on the border between Richmond and Northumberland Cos. According to John's probate file in Polk Co., Oregon, he died on Aug. 7, 1854 at the home of his son, David R. Lewis. John married his second wife, Elizabeth Stout on 27 Aug 1811 in Fayette Co., Kentucky, according to his dlc.
Although his dlc was in Polk Co., he was an early land owner in Benton Co., owning two lots and an improvement on 2nd Street in the Village of Corvallis which were purchased by his son Jeremiah V. Lewis at John's estate sale.

The Lewis family came to Oregon in 1845 and three of John's children settled in Benton Co. - Jeremiah V. Lewis, Nancy Lewis Cook (wife of James W.), and Mary Ann Elizabeth Lewis Fuller (2nd wife of Arnold Fuller). Two of his grandchildren later lived in Benton, Mary Catherine Lewis Allen of Philomath area, and Nancy Emma Powell (wife of J.S.S. Powell).
John's gr.gr.gr.gr.grandson, Clay Leisman of Corvallis, is presently doing his Eagle Scout project at the Locke Cemetery.

John Douglas Lewis was the co-founder of Lewisville. Polk Co., Oregon. Lewisburg, Benton Co., was founded by Hamen Lewis. Our best GUESS as to why our John D. Lewis was buried in the Locke Cemetery at Lewisburg is that
John's wife, Elizabeth R. Stout, was a sister of Harrison Porter Locke's first wife, Rebecca Stout Mosely. It would be nice if someone researched to varify this....
The answer to that question is no that is not correct Rebecca Haines Mosley-Locke was the niece of Elizabeth she was the daughter of Elizabeth's sister Sarah Stout who married Joseph Haines. But that would not be why John and Elizabeth Lewis are buried there in oregon, because Rebecca did not marry Harrison Porter Locke buried in Oregon she married Harrison Locke burried in Missouri. I am sure the two Harrison Lockes are related but just how is a mystery.
Many websites have combined these two individuals including Oregon State Archives, a correction letter has been sent to them to get this corrected.
Note: Two different Harrison Lockes
