Thomas Lisher was baptised in St Mary's Church Sompting on 2 March 1777. There were several farms in Sompting, where he would have worked on the land, but the chances are that he worked on Upton Farm like his father John. On 4 November 1800 he married a local girl, Sarah Hill(s), daughter of Daniel Hill(s) and Sarah Fields, who was 18 years old. The couple had eight children - 3 boys and 5 girls, all born in Sompting. In 1819, Sarah passed away and was buried in Sompting Churchyard on 6 April. Their youngest daughter was only 16 months old. Almost nine years later, on 24 February 1828, Thomas remarried to Mary Duke, a widow whose maiden name is not yet known. The witnesses to this second marriage were Thomas's sister Elizabeth and her husband John Lamper. A few months after having celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary Mary and Thomas died within days of each other in October 1843. Mary was buried on 19 October, aged 64 and Thomas passed away two days after his wife's funeral on 21 October, aged 66, and was buried in Sompting churchyard on 26 October 1843.
