Hi

The GEDCOM will not automatically populate your tree, it generates a GEDCOMpare report which you work through either accepting or rejecting suggested matches. Once you have done this the data from your file will be filled in on the add profile screen so that you can review and make adjustments before saving

One of our mentors created a tutorial for the GEDCOMpare process that I found very helpful. I hope that you will too.

Hi there! My name is Vicky (Freeth) Majewski and I am a WikiTree Mentor.

This is just a courtesy e-mail to see how things are going. Are you enjoying WikiTree so far? Any questions? Any issues?

Feel free to contact me via my profile page. I am happy to help!

Thanks for your note, Herb. You made me giggle with your comment about "5th cousins of great uncles." I know that scenario well.

WikiTree profiles can be great or nearly unsourced as you have discovered. The thing that makes it different here is that our goal is to have only one profile and that one to be well sourced. We are obviously not there yet but it is an ongoing goal, one which is improving every day. We have volunteers who scour the site looking for duplicates to merge, some who enjoy hunting down sources for profiles, and still others who enjoy writing biographies. It is a labor of love and we're really glad you are with us.

As you work with the How-to pages, you may still have questions about how to do specific things. I'll be glad to answer any of them.

Hi Herb,

You've been a member of WikiTree for about a week so I am checking in to see how it is going. The New Member How-Tos are for you to work at your own pace. If you had time to look, were they helpful?

I'm here to help with questions about how WikiTree works. Click my name and ask in the comment section of my page.

Debi ~ WikiGreeter

PS DNA at WikiTree provides a visual way for you to find others who have tested and have the potential of having common ancestors. It does not work without visible connections to profiles of your ancestors. To get the best results, add profiles until you connect to the WikiTree. 24 hours later, your test will have populated on potential matches.

Welcome! You are now a full member and can add your family to the big tree.

Start with our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time, energy and frustration as you add your family profiles. Check out Find -> Projects to learn of groups like Project: US Southern Colonies. Also try clicking your surname tags to find other members following those names.

We are so happy to have you here in the WikiTree community. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help!
