Hi, Jean

Congratulations on certifying to work on pre-1700 profiles! It’s very important to read and understand the Pre-1700 Profiles page. These profiles for deep ancestors are shared by many, and collaborating on them works best if we all follow the guidelines in the certification quiz.

Primary sources should always be added to pre-1700 profiles at the time they are created. If you don't have a source for a pre-1700 profile, it would be best to ask for help in the G2G forum before creating the profile.

Hi –

We are happy to have you as a member of WikiTree. I hope you’re enjoying being here.

I'm a member of the Mentor project, and I just wanted to check in and see how things are going. Do you have any questions I can help you with?

Shirley – WikiMentor

Hello Jean,

Here is a link that deals specifically what you asked about sources.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Sources

Hope this helps as there are links for various aspects of sourcing. There are great options for finding sources as well. I use RootsSearch and here is the link for that.

Please let me know if you have any further questions, I look forward to helping you!

Thanks, Cindy

Hello Again,

You've been a member of WikiTree for about a week now so I thought I would check in to see how it's going. Have the How-Tos been helpful or left you with questions?

I want to help! Click my name, then ask in the comment section of my page or send me a private message. Sometimes links don't work in emails. If that's happened to you, check the public comments on your profile. The links will work from there.

Cindy ~ WikiTree Messenger

PS To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to this link. RootsSearch. There are 24 different websites available and most are free. Give it a try!

Hi Jean,

Welcome to the WikiTree family!

You are now a full member and can add your family to the big tree! Start with our New Member How-To pages. They will save you time, energy and frustration as you add your family profiles. We are so happy to have you here in the WikiTree community. Please let me know if you have any questions. I'm always happy to help! I've been here over 4 years and still don't have ALL the answers, but I try hard.

p.s. I noticed you uploaded a GEDCOM. Here's a link to great information about GEDCompare, the process of adding a GEDCOM to WikiTree, that you might find helpful. Also, 'Before you import a GEDCOM'

Because WikiTree has only one profile for each person, the further back you go in your ancestry, the more likely cousins will find you and help out. ANY Wiki Genealogist can edit "Open" profiles (over 200 years old = open). There is also a brickwall tag in the G2G forum: brickwall

Sources are very important, so please be sure to include the sources used, on each profile you add.

It is a good idea to enter a few of your ancestors manually, to get used to how WikiTree works. Then, you could upload a small portion of your tree, with a gedcom, to see how that works. There is always editing needed after a Gedcom import, so fewer profiles will make that task easier.
