William Polk/Margaret Taylor constitute the end of the line as far as the President's ancestry goes. Everything that has been written on the ancestry of President Polk showing such ancestry going back to Robert Polk/Magdalen (Tasker) Porter Polk of Somerset Co., MD., is wrong, proven by research and by DNA.[2][3] There is no doubt that the old Polk Tree of 1849 and all the main Polk genealogies such as "Polk Family and Kinsmen," 1912, by William Harrison Polk, and "The Polks of North Carolina and Tennessee," 1923-1924, Emma Angellotti, and numerous other genealogies and writings are wrong as to the ancestry. We do not know at this point who the parents of William Polk (who m. Margaret Taylor) are, nor is there any proof of Margaret Taylor's ancestry (some have speculated, but there is no proof of who her parents were). [4]

Mary (Polk) Alexander (1744 - 1814) (Polk-540) (https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Polk-540) was probably a daughter of William and Margaret Polk as seen by evidence of her burial in the Polk family cemetery.
I am the profile manager for Margaret Polk Henry. I do not believe she is a child of William Polk II and Margaret Taylor. Are you able to extract her from this family and leave her parentless?
Not sure who to contact on this: In Aug 2016 I found this family on FamilySearch.org. Lt. Col. William Polk II [his ID# LK3H-DXQ] is shown to have the following parents: William Polk b. 1664 [MJRZ-DL8] and Nancy Knox [LH5H-3YF] b.1674 both born in Ireland. I also have death info.
There is no known ancestry for William Polk who m. Margaret Taylor. The genealogies showing him as descended from the Polks of Somerset Co., MD., that is, from William Polk/Nancy Knox Owens and then to Robert Polk and Magdalen (Tasker) Porter have been proven by research and DNA to be wrong. William Polk who m. Margaret Taylor has been definitely proven NOT to be connected to William Polk and Nancy Knox Owens, and definitely not connected at all to the Somerset/Dorchester Co., MD., Polks. This has been proven by research and DNA testing of descendants of lines stemming from Robert Polk/Magdalen (Tasker) Porter, and from descendants of William Polk/Margaret Taylor. See FTDNA Polk-Pollock DNA chart at World Families,
Margaret Taylor's ancestry is not proven. She d. in 1763, per old listing of burials in the Polk-Alexander Cemetery, Mecklenburg Co., NC. Where the exact DOD for her in 1763 came from I know not. Bill Polk
