Jost Henrich Schäffer was born in Hochspeyer (Hochsteur) Germany[1] He appeared on the Hunter lists August 4, 1710 and was naturalized in September 1717. He with his wife Agnes were at Beckmansland about 1716/17.[2] He appeared on the tax rolls of the North Ward from 1717/18 until 1742/43 when his widow is listed. [3] He paid money for the Lutheran congregation in 1729. [4]He was a surveyor of the King's Highway in the North Ward in 1732.[5]
In the year 1710, Jost / Justus Heinrich / Henrich Schaffer immigrated from Germany to New York. [6] His name is listed variously on marriage documents and baptismal records for his children, as Jost, Justus and even John Henry. See his wife's profile for additional sources. Seibel-101
On September 5, 1710, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, West Camp, New York, Jost / Justus married Susanna Agnes Seibel. Agnes had previously married Sebastian Backus, who died in Germany. As a widow, Agnes migrated around 1710 to America as part of the Palatine movement and settled in Ulster County, New York. Agnes and Jost may have met during the passage to New York. [7]
Six children of Agnes and "John Henry" Schafer (Schaffer) were baptized at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. For additional information regarding these children, see wife's profile.
Justus Hindrich Schaffer and wife Susanna Agneza sponsored the baptism of [grandson] Justus Henrich Schaffer.
Hindrich Schaffer and wife Susanna Agnes sponsored the baptism of [granddaughter] Susanna Agnes Zipperle

"The money was paid by Hendrick Shever, Joseph Rykart, Barent Siperly, and Karell Neher, for the Lutherans, and received by France Kelder , Coenradt Bearinger, Wendell Polver and Jacob Wolleben for the Reformers." As the Reformed were buying the Lutheran interest in the church building from the Lutherans, the report of the transaction seems backwards.

Paternal line Y-chromosome DNA test-takers:
Schaeffer-326 and Schäffer-69 appear to represent the same person because: I removed the unmerged match instead of rejecting and it removed the pending merge as well. Setting it up again.
Same name , same spouse, born the same year in the same Country. All notes on Schaffer-69 confirm that these are duplicates. A merge was set up along with a unmerged match for the same two profiles.
If you agree that the two profiles are duplicates, please compete the merge.
Schäffer-69 and Schaffer-28 appear to represent the same person because: The New Netherlands settler designation needs to removed for this person who arrived more than 30 years after the end of New Netherlands.
Both of their first spouses died in Germany prior to their immigration to New York, as part of the Palatine movement. You are right about removing the New Netherland category though, as they arrived in America circa 1710 and the New Netherlanders refer to an ancestor who lived in New Netherland before or during 1675
Schaffer-28 and Schäffer-69 are not ready to be merged because: Schaffer-28 profile needs to be cleaned up first. Also If it is the same person as Schäffer-69 then Schaffer-28 was not a New Netherlands settler and should be removed from that project.
