== Biography In 2017, a nearly 93 year old man, retired dentist, interested in genealogy since 1960, my sister, Emma and I have tracked the Amos Sledge line in this country, and have made an effort to connect the Sledge line in England to our family via Charles Sledge who stated he came to Virginia in 1686. His name on a passenger list seems to elude me. I would appreciate any help or suggestions.
Descendant of Charles Sledge and Mary Clark Sledge via John and then his son Amos. Amos died 1780 and one son, Peyton moved with his wife to Hancock co. Ga around 1800. His son Green moved to Florida in 1830, and our family has been here in Jefferson County since that time. 2. Charles was born [Christened] Oct. 7 1660. [English Births and Christenings Index#C15349-1 and GS Film #1279311 to a father John Sledge. The mother is not mentioned, but brothers in the same index mention the name Martha. This sounds reasonable since Charles had a daughter named Martha [married Hay] and an only son, John named after the grandfather as was the custom.
