Biography

Sir William Strode of Shepton Mallet, England was a strong opponent of King James II's authority in Parliament (1685-1688). Sir William was called a Parliamentarian because he opposed the King. William with 2000 troops and his sons went so far as to take up arms against the King's soldiers. Most of the Strodes survived this conflict. Sir William Strode's brother Barnard & sister-in-law were beheaded in this 'Bloody Assize'. King James II had as many as 300 people executed, others imprisoned & whipped. Much of the conflict was Catholic/Protestant related.[1]

Strode-185 and Strode-18 appear to represent the same person because: These profiles do represent the same person, now that verification of having three marriages has been clarified
Strode-185 and Strode-18 appear to represent the same person because: merge was incorrectly rejected. Sources have now been added to show that there were NOT two men born at the same time with the same name with the same parents, but, different wives. He actually had three wives.
