Biography

Not to be confused with Michael Weber who immigrated in 1751

Michael Weaver was born Johann Michael Weber on August 24, 1722 in Haschbach, Palatine Zweibrucken.[1]

Michael arrived at Philadelphia on the Lydia in 1741, he reported his age as 19.[2]

Research Notes

Two merged profiles showed an alternate birth date of 5 September 1722, but with no source provided. A merged profile also showed an alternate birth place of Wittenburg, Hannover, Niedersachsen, Germany, but this does not really make sense as a place name. Wittenberg was in eastern Germany, not in Hannover, Niedersachsen. Another merged profile shows a birth date of 21 Feb 1732, again with no source quoted.

There is a Find A Grave Memorial which reports a 1722 date,[3] but the photographed tombstone gives the birth date of 1730, clearly indicating that this burial is for the other Michael Weber who immigrated in 1751.

Hello Weaver Cousins. I have newly researched info on Michael Weaver (born Weber) and Anna Barbara Murr Weaver. After years trying to verify the surname of Anna Barbara, I wondered why their son Johannes was baptised in Philadelphia. If they lived in Schaefferstown, why would they travel to Philadelphia for a birth or a baptism?? They did not. They immigrated in 1751 on the ship "Brothers". They landed Sept 16th in Philadelphia. Johannes was born Sept 21 and baptized 22 Sep 1751. I found baptismal records in the Archives of the Lutheran Church in Pennsylvania. The sponsors were Johannes and Catharina Meintzer. Michael and Anna Barbara were born and married in Hagsfeld, Karlsrhue, Germany. I found their birthdates and marriage date in the "Hagsfelder Kirchenbuch", a German transcription of the church book by Wolfgang Erb. I also found 7 generations of their ancestors in that book. Michael was born 08 Feb 1730. Marriage was 28 May 1748. Anna Barbara's last name was Murr. Her brother Andreas Murr was also on the ship Brothers and their surname became Morr in America.

There were two Michael Webers who immigrated to Philadelphia - one in 1741 and ours in 1751. Early biographers guessed wrong.

Could someone from the Palatine Migration Project sort out the duplicates for Michael and his wife, Anna Barbara? I would like to merge their son, Johannes, who currently has two sets of parents.

The usual way to request a merge is to propose it using the links in the lower left corner of the profile page. Project leaders could amend the PPP situation after the merge is proposed; you don't need a Leader to propose the merge.

I believe I found the other profile, apparently for this man, that you are concerned about. However, I hesitate to merge them. Weber-4123 does appear to have the same wife, son, and death date as this man, but he has a different birth date and he arrived in America on a different ship in a different year. The birth date (1730) on the Weber-4123 profile matches the birth date on the grave marker illustrated on this Weber-6796 profile. I think bits of two different men's lives might be conflated in one or both of these profiles.

Weaver-3849 and Weber-6796 appear to represent the same person because: Born in Germany so Weber is correct LNAB and Weaver is Current Last Name.

He came over on the Lydia in 1741, so the baptism shown in 1722 is probably correct. 1732 is too late a date for his birth and there is no source for this date.

Weaver-2485 and Weber-6796 appear to represent the same person because: Born in Germany; LNAB would be Weber, as per tombstone shown on FAG

The name was certainly changed to Weaver in America and Weaver should be the current last name. The question is: what was the spelling when he was born in Germany. That determines the LNAB.

Hi I think I have seen that Weber sometimes changed to Weaver. Does that matter? Is that eliminating that one from participating as a Weaver?

Issues to be resolved before the merges of Weaver-3850, 3849, 2485 and 1964:

1/ If this person was born in Germany, should not LNAB be Weber (as per tombstone)?

2/ Birth date is variously given as 1722, 1730 and 1732.

3/ Three different birth places are given, all from different parts of Germany.

All affected profiles have been temporarily PPP'ed til this is sorted out.
