Biography

This profile is part of the Whitehead Name Study.

Burrell Whitehead was born about 1779 reportedly in Robeson, North Carolina to parents Jacob Whitehead and Susannah Whitehead. His mother, Susannah was not a Whitehead by birth and should be Susannah Unknown.

Burrell's wife, Frances Smith was first married to Joseph Nail, Neal). They had six children and after his death, Frances and Burrell Whitehead married about 1801 probably in Franklin County, Georgia. No marriage record has been found; however, there are court records showing that Burrell Whitehead was reimbursed from the estate of Joseph for the care of the Nail/Neal children. It is known that Frances and Burrell were married by 10 February 1803 when John and Julian Neal (brothers of Joseph), were appointed " guardians of Sarah, Alexander, Kesiah, Judith, Obediah & Sabra Neal, now children of Burrell Whitehead's wife.[1] There are at least three more entries in the matter of the children of Frances. February 1804 an order to Burrell Whitehead[2]; February 1806 Receipt of Burrell Whitehead; No date, Return of Burrell Whitehead for support of six children.[3]Burrell and Frances Whitehead sold land to Wiliam Barton in Franklin County; Deed dated 21 January 1806. [4]

Burrell and Frances had only one known child, a daughter, Frances Whitehead who was born about 1808. It is assumed that Burrell died about 1820 as he no longer appeared in any of the Franklin County records. Nothing else is known about Frances Smith Whitehead at that point. Evidently, their daughter, Frances Whitehead, must have lived with one of her half-siblings in Franklin County as she married Wiley Clark there in 1828.

Whitehead-1642 and Whitehead-395 do not represent the same person because: They are not the same person. Whitehead 395, Burrell Whitehead, was married to Frances Smith and had daughter Frances Whitehead. There are court documents in Franklin County, Georgia naming him as guardian of wife's children by previous husband. Actually, Whitehead 1642 is not Joseph Burrell but just Joseph B. Whitehead.
Hi! I reviewed the MatchBot-proposed merge of Whitehead-1778 and Whitehead-395 & confirmed they're duplicates. They have the same year of birth as well as same spouse listed.

Thanks! ~ MatchBot MP (MatchBot Monitors Project) P.S. I've checked and Whitehead-395 is the lowest-numbered profile.
