Biography

Back to being active on WikiTree.

I was born on 8 November 1986 in Potter, Texas. I'm the son of Stephen Kerbow and Lana (Lewis) Kerbow.[1]

Our family lived in Dumas, Texas until about 1993 when my father got a job in Uvalde, Texas. I lived there until I graduated from Uvalde High in 2005.[2]

After high school graduation I attended a small junior college in Uvalde for 2 years to get my Associate's degree. Then, I decided to attend Abilene Christian University with a major in Psychology and minor in Journalism. I graduated with a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Psychology. At ACU, I met someone and married them right after we graduated college on 13 Jun 2009.[3] We moved to San Antonio.[2] There I got a job supervising residents at a 24 hour adolescent treatment center for behavioral problems. After working there about two years I applied to my dream job of being a CPS Investigator. It took about 6 months for me to realize the job was just too intense and demanding. To anyone who works in CPS, I applaud you for having the constitution and strength to keep going every day.

Around this time my marriage fell apart. We were both young and just turned out to be incompatible with each other. We separated. She continued to live in San Antonio and I moved back in with my parents to get my life back on track. On 25 Sep 2013 our divorce was finalized.[4] Around the time we separated and agreed that it was over between us, I met my future wife on an online game and we became fast friends.

I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. My dream job was far more intense than I imagined it would be. I took a few odd jobs until I got a job at a grocery store. I worked there for about 2 years. My girlfriend (now wife) and parents both encouraged me that I could become a teacher. I decided to leave the grocery store job and become a substitute teacher. I loved subbing and decided to pursue a teaching degree. I began taking classes in 2014 and eventually realized math was the route I wanted to take. I achieved my teaching certification in November 2019. My student teaching experience was the semester before COVID-19 hit.

2020 was a crazy and terrible year, but good things did happen. I got married to the woman I met on an online game. We had been together for 8 years before we got married. Another positive happened in Sep 2020. I applied and was accepted to a virtual math teaching position. Currently I'm teaching students in Louisiana and Georgia from my home in Texas. I have a lot of spare time on my hands currently, so I'm using some of that time to do genealogy research. I've only been at this seriously for a couple of months, so mistakes are likely going to happen. As a math teacher I'm not afraid of mistakes. They happen, we recognize they happened, learn from them, then move on. If you see me using an unreliable source or a mistake please point it out! I also don't mind if you correct it for me and just explain to me why so I don't repeat it.

Hi Paul... Thank you for making your DNA searchable. I have found that you share a 6.8 cM DNA match with my Dad, GEDmatch kit # A957320. It's a small match, but statistically significant. I descend from the Rhodes family who lived in Orange County, North Carolina in the 1770s. Unfortunately, I have been unable to link my ancestor, William Rhodes to his relatives. Anyway, I just wanted to say "hi" and thank you for adding your DNA. You also have good small matches with others of this lineage (i.e. Robert Rhoads, GEDmatch kit # A497048 5.4 cM on chromosome 22.)

Thank you! Sorry for the slow reply. The end of the school year is approaching and it's busy! I haven't looked deep into the Rhodes family yet, but hopefully we'll be able to make a connection somewhere.

Hi, Paul!

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Take care,

Hi Paul,

Thanks for taking responsibility for the Orphaned Profiles. This After Adopting Orphans FAQ explains the special attention adopted profiles will sometimes need from their profile managers. One quick way to find the profiles you adopted is by searching your Contributions List for the word "adopted" and "manager." You can find a quick link to your Contributions List in the My WikiTree dropdown menu.

Let me know if you have any questions on how to find and record sources, merge duplicates, clean up GEDCOM biographies, and interpret the Suggestions report. I'm here to help!

Debi

PS If the profile needs GEDCOM cleanup, the AGC tool can help with formatting so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ.

Hello Paul,

Thanks for taking the Pre-1700 Quiz!

Pre-1700 ancestors can be shared by many descendants, so collaboration is essential. You can learn more about joining the community in How To #3 and in the Project FAQ.

I’m going to suggest that the France project might fit your current research focus. If not, use the Pre-1700 Projects list to find other possibilities. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Please take your time. Accuracy is so much more important than speed on WikiTree. And please add locations, dates, and at least one reliable source to each profile, particularly any pre-1700s profile, before you leave it. (See: Pre-1700 Reliable Sources).

Have questions? Ask in the comments section of my profile.

 :)

Hi Paul

While doing WikiTree Greeter duties, I noticed that you have recently uploaded a GEDCOM file. You may find it useful to look at the GEDCOMpare process guide which has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

If you are using Chrome or Opera browsers, there is a tool that can help with the formatting of profiles which have been created through GEDCOM, so that you can concentrate on the research. You can read more about it in the WikiTree AGC FAQ. Personally, I have found this app really useful.

If you have any questions about how WikiTree works, log into WikiTree and go to your profile. Use the ‘Reply’ link below my comment. Alternatively, click my name to visit my profile. From there, you can leave a comment, or send a private message.

Have fun

Wow! I just added the extension on chrome and it organizes the profiles SO MUCH BETTER! Thank you thank you thank you!

Hi Paul

I'm so pleased that you love the AGC App. I've found that it works best on profiles that are straight out of GEDCOMPARE. It's not so good if tweaks or major changes have already been made to the Biography. But, it's easy enough to try it and then cancel out of the profile amendment if it's not doing what you want it to. Best wishes Maureen
