I'm of mixed Finnish and Sami heritage with some Swedish heritage.
My father's parents were both Tornionlaaksolaiset (Tornedalians, tornedalingar in Swedish) who due to Swedish assimilation policies did not teach their children their language and preferred to not speak it to them. Finnish was and always remaind the mother tongue of both my father's father and my father's mother.
My paternal grandfather's mother was mostly Swedish speaking due to growing up in a Swedish-speaking village but died early in my grandfather's life and thus this Swedish side had little effect on my grandfather.
My paternal great-grandfather Artur Torikka spoke Swedish as a second language but lived in a Finnish-speaking environment and his father was even born on Finnish side of the border, in the same village that had been partitioned in 1809. His ancestors are almost all Finnish (or Tornedalians if you prefer that term) with the exception of the possibly French Petter Pipping whose son married into the Finnish community they lived in, and the German Arendt Grape whose children did likewise.
My mother's father was of mixed Sami and Finnish heritage, however the family had many Sami cultural traditions, as well as the tradition of reindeer herding which had been passed down through the generations. The Sami language in my maternal grandfather's family ought to have died out in the 1890's and was fully replaced with Finnish with the new generations.
My mother's mother was of full Sami heritage from Inari and Utsjoki parishes in northeastern Lappi.
On my father's side, my great-great grandfather Nils Petter Jönsson belonged to a Swedish family originally from Överkalix and was Swedish.
On my mother's side my great-great-great-great grandfather Per Persson Åberg was Swedish from Nederkalix parish. He married a Finnish woman.
