2021 November Connectors' Monthly Challenge

Hi Connectors! The November Connectors Challenge is up and running. :D A little late in the day because my daughter kept me up late for Halloween!

This is a monthly challenge and open to everyone. The goal is to connect parents, create profiles or propose merges, etc. to connect unconnected branches to the main tree. Scoring is of branches connected to the tree, not individual profiles. So whether a branch consists of two people or ninety-two people, it still counts as ONE connection. Unlike the Connect-a-Thon, only actual connections made are counted, not the number of profiles created to get to a connection.

The Connector’s Challenge Rules:

 1. Pick an existing profile (created before this month’s challenge began) that is not currently connected to the Global Family Tree. (Hint: If you are a member of the Connectors Project, you’ll see a yellow puzzle piece icon next to that person’s name at the top of their profile if they aren’t connected.)

2. Add a profile for any first degree relative for that profile (a parent, spouse, child, or sibling). Continue adding first degree relatives until you run into a profile that is already connected to the Global Family Tree that you can attach to. Remember to use good sources to support the creation or connection of every profile you make! Please be aware that it takes 24 hours for the tree to update and show the connection.

3. ANSWER this post. This lets us know that you’re participating in this month’s challenge. It’s easiest for us to track your trail if you post it here, but you can also use the Challenge Tracker. Just be sure you comment “Connected to Smith-000” when you make the connection to the already existing, already connected profile. Replace Smith-000 with the actual profile ID of the starting profile you were trying to connect. And there can be only ONE connection per branch!

4. Remember the tally is not of profiles created (like the Connect-a-Thon) but of actual connections made to the Global Family Tree. You might connect a whole branch of profiles and make 100 new profiles in the process of making a connection, but the connection only counts as 1.

5. If you enjoy challenges, keep in mind that adding good sources to any existing profiles you run into while connecting or fixing errors on those existing profiles might count towards the Sourcerers or Data Doctors Challenges.

6. Let us know if you’d like a Connector’s Badge for participating. That will also make you a part of our project and we’d love to have you! Stats are kept and updated on the Connectors Challenge page. The link to the tracker will follow.

Please sign me up belatedly for the Nov-Dec 2021 Connector's Challenge.

I have definitely been challenged for signing up this month! Thank!

Carol, the Connector's challenged changed it's rhythm. It is now, just as most of the other challenges, from 1st to last of the month.
Hi Jelena, I know. I thought I signed up for November 1, but it was not tracking until November 2nd or so.

Originally, though, it was my mistake for asking to be signed up for Nov-Dec 2021. These past few weeks were a nightmare with son-in-law having open-heart surgery (he's 48) and grandson having emergency surgery for bowel obstruction. I think I am on the roster now for November 2021, though. Thanks!

And my next connection: See here if it fits for the challenge

Unconnected Conrad Koch existed on WikiTree. I created his son Karl Friedrich Koch. Karl Friedrich got his daughter Helene Elisabeth Clara (Koch) Threlfall. Helene got her husband William Threlfall. William got his father Richard Threlfall. Richard got his first wife (stepmother of William) Jane (Jolley) Threlfall. And Jane's father Edward Jolly already existed on WikiTree and is connected.

Here is again a connection: Unconnected Friedrich Jacob Weyel, I created the son Wilhelm Friedrich Weyel, created the spouse Heinriette Wilhelmine (Gerth) Weyel, created her father Peter Heinrich Gerth, created his father Johannes Gerth, created his father Johann Georg Gerth and connected him with his brother Johann Jacob Gerth, who is connected to the Big Tree.

Unconnected Karl Friedrich Ringer, I created father Jacob Friedrich Ringer, father Johann Jacob Ringer, brother Samuel Ringer connected.

is it possible to register belatedly, I thought I already had done and have recorded a few connections already, probably not all as I've found it difficult to keep track, when it wasn't ones on my own watchlist,  e.g. last 2 days have created heaps of profiles just to get to a connected one :D  -  I do tend to get lost sourcing anyway, so not important, it would be great to see the puzzle piece to save the scrolling too

Oh my gosh.. I connected a "Notable" Serial Killer, I hadn't started with him but a sister of his, amazing what you find in this connectors thingy!

John Reginald Halliday "Reg" Christie

I started with a random link from the unconnected profiles page, saw there were a few "Halliday" Christies so just picked one of them figuring connect 1, connect them all :D

I picked an unmarried daughter as it happens so went all the way back, with the help of the LDS tree view, and found an already connected profile in Hugh Barclay I added his daughter Elizabeth Barclay who had married a Robert Christie in Ayrshire, Scotland.. these 2 are the direct ancestors of the "Halliday" Christies (and many more in between as I created/linked a couple of profiles along the way)

I actually remember watching that 10 Rillington Place  now I've read the connection.. spooky!

Robert -> John -> Ernest John  (father of "Reg")

-----

Edit to add, it turns out the unmarried Elsie Halliday Christie I'd picked at random was actually a Bigamist! (what a family :D )

a bit of trek this one to find a connected relation, but have connected  a whole branch  of Lawson's via the addition of Alexander Calder whose sons John and Alexander became the link in the tree for Lawson via John's daughter Annie who married a McKenzie, who was already connected
