How to add a photo to a Cemetery category page?

How do I add a photo to the Category page of a specific cemetery, e.g. a photo of the Cemetery name sign, which I don't want to upload to a specific profile?  I see there are Cemetery space pages which list the interments, but I don't think I want to get into that yet.

Hi Meg,

Not sure how to add to a category page, but if you have created a free space page for said Cemetery, you can upload photos to that.  That is what I have been doing.  If there is a particular photo I have of a cemetery, like a sign or a photo of the entire cemetery, I just add it to the free space page!  Then you can connect the free space page to the Category page.

Thank you for your reply, Liz. I have been adding Cemetery Category pages, and I was asking if I could add photos to the Category page, and it appears the answer is No. A very kind gentleman sent me a photo of a cemetery name sign and I wanted to show my appreciation by posting it somewhere. Because my priority now is adding categories to the profiles I manage, I don't want to spend time creating Free space pages for cemeteries now.  (Perhaps I don't really understand their purpose, but they seem to duplicate the category pages.)
Actually Meg, you CAN add a photo to a category page... but it needs to be uploaded to a free space page. This is explained on:

As you have to place the image on a Free Space page it would probably be best to create a free space page for the cemetery. This does not need to be difficult. You merely need to copy and paste the content of one of the cemetery project pages and change the location references and any other text not relevant. That would also provide a prepared page for a cemetery project member to use for their table of graves when the time comes to catalog the interments for that cemetery.

Hi Meg

You can participate at any level you like. As WikiTree is collaborative, though, it would be most helpful if you followed conventiones developed by others so that your work can be built on. For that reason, as Liz answered, it would be best to create a Free Space page for a cemetery and upload the photo of the cemetery sign to that free space page. Then others (or you) can use the page to create a table of interments. Others (or you) could also then create profiles for people listed in the table. This is the great benefit of a Wiki. Everyone can contribute. You can to the lot, or just one small part.

If you have any questions about the process and what is appropriate, please post them here.

I was hurt by your comment, Paul. I'm not sure why you felt I am not following the conventions developed by others since I have created several Cemetery category pages, that are being used by others.
I'm sorry Meg. No malice was intended. My comment was only a suggestion intended as guidance for anyone who may be reading these G2G question and answers as a resource, and in answer to your question as you seemed to be asking how to proceed (I was not aware that you have already created categories for cemeteries). As my understanding was that you had not yet begun the advice seemed appropriate. I am here to help, not hinder.
Paul, did I also understand your answer to be explaining that the Cemeteries project convention is to create freespace pages and that THAT's where cemetery photos should go (vs. on Category pages)?
Yes, Jilliane. That's how we are working.
For the benefit of others. Category pages and Free Space pages work quite sifferently and have various strengths and weaknesses. The indexed content of Category pages is dynamically created. As a profile has a category added to it, so that "profile" or free space page is listed on the Category page. By their nature, any extra text on the page should be brief and explanatory.

Free Space pages have a lot more freedom and can have managers and people on the Trusted Lists. This means that several people can follow the changes as changes will appear in the WikiTree users feed. This can be very useful when there are several hundred profiles to create, photos to add, etc. When I see an addition to a cemetery I manage in my feed, I try to add more information, in particular, I look to try and link it to the global tree. Categories can be used to further divide a cemetery and these lists would be created dynamically on the category page (for instance, denomination, or sections (lawn against monumental section, etc. In the case of cemeteries, small cemeteries will likely just have the cemetery category for that cemetery, but large ones will need to be divided into smaller categories as well. That is what categories are for, organizing.
Thank you, Paul.  I now appreciate that your urging me to "follow conventions" was not an implied criticism of my expressed desire to not get into creating Free Space pages for Cemeteries.  Your explanation of the difference between Cemetery Category pages and Cemetery Free Space pages was also very helpful, but reaffirmed my feeling that creating Cemetery Free Space pages has lower priority for me, and that the Cemetery Name sign photo that was given me will be held until I do get around to creating a Free Space page, unless someone else gets to it before me.  Thanks again.
