Have recent changes to the WikiTree disciplinary process been publicly announced?

Just today I learned of a "Stage 5" in the WikiTree Conflict Escalation process.  I'd not heard of that before.  The Help page was last updated four days ago.  Should members be told of such a significant change?

Stage 5 used to be "Escalation to the Team" (see an old revision from 2017 https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Help:Conflict_Escalation&oldid=48419631). Stage 5 is now handled by the Mediators Council (see https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Mediators) instead of the Team.

Thank you.

So if someone gets a message that they are in stage 5, with no prior warning, what should they do?  What should they think?  How could that happen?
They should follow the instructions they received in the email from the Mediators Council.
They would have been warned about their behavior in previous mediations and either stated directly or shown through repeat actions that there is no willingness to make a change. At some point, so much volunteer labor is wasted handling mediations and mentoring some members over the same issues, that the best thing for the site is to ask them to step away for a while or close their account.

Jamie, thank you for the link to the past policy.  May I respectfully ask three questions?

•  Although the Mediators Council isn’t altogether new (because it replaces the “Team” as the final step), it does appear to me that the specific list of remedies, Options A through G, is new.  Is that correct?

•  The description of Stage Five includes a list of required reports.  Are those reports shared with the person being accused?

•  The previous policy included a section entitled “Public Review of Account Closures.”  The heading is not included in the new policy, but it appears that the option is still available.  Is that correct?

Julie K --

  • The Mediators Council is new and does not consist of Team members; the list of remedies is not new, but those remedies have been spelled out and clarified for the community.
  • A summary of the issues will be shared with the member who is referred to the Mediator Council.
  • Public review is still available as described on the help page.

If the recipient of a Mediator Council email has questions, they should respond to that email with those questions and not use others as their intermediary.

(edited for clarification)

Julie R., please give me credit for thinking on my own.  I am not acting as anyone's intermediary.

Thank you for answering my questions.  I think the answers may be of interest to other WikiTreers, not just me and the people I might know.
