UPDATE:  HAPPY HOLIDAYS everyone!  Hope you have a great holiday season!  Thanks for all who volunteered, and those who added wishes!  Our industrious elves are already working on those wishes.  Stay tuned for the big reveals on the Jan 7th LiveCast.  Registration for Wishes and Elves is now closed!  Enjoy this special time with your family now!

Did you ever write a letter to Santa? Was it magically answered for you? WELL ... this year you have the opportunity to make a Genealogical Wish to Santa (or the Great Pumpkin, or the Spirit of the Universe, or the great WikiTreer in the Sky ...) and MAYBE ... just maybe ... one of our amazing WikiTree Elves will respond to your request!

All you have to do is click ANSWER button right below this post, and indicate what it is you'd like help with.

As the Genie of the Lamp said - there are just 3 rules:

 • You can't kill anybody - BUT - you can wish for someone to help you find a death record!
 • You can't make anybody fall in love - BUT - you can wish for someone to help you find a marriage record (and children ...)
 • Finally, no wishing for more wishes. Please ONE WISH per WikiTreer

Note: This is a fun challenge, and Elves are your fellow WikiTreers who have volunteered their time and resources to help you out ... but there is no guarantee that we'll be able to get through every wish, break down every brick wall, find all the missing information that everyone could wish for ... BUT ... we will do our best, and have fun along the way.

IF you wish to volunteer to be a Secret Santa ELF - then - check out THIS G2G post and sign up there! (You can do both!)

The deadline for Wishes is December 24th at midnight, Eastern Standard Time.  The results of the Secret Santa Challenge will be revealed on the January 7th Saturday LiveCast at 10am EST with Mags, Sarah, Greg and Betsy.

(Thank you to my fellow lead Elves Christine Daniels and Kathy Nava!)

closed with the note: Registration deadline has passed for Wishes and Elves for 2022.

Dear Santa

I have been really good this year. I have edited over 1000 profiles that I have created in the beginning of my journey with WikiTree that I have messed up. Broke down three brick walls but I am still stuck since 2019, finding my mother-in-law's grandparents.

I have asked on numerous groups and got now where. I won't be greedy so all I ask for this year is a name or two.

If you would be so kind and grand me my wish, her profile is Louwrens-88.

Happy festive season Santa-teers

Dear Santa,

I've been a really good boy for the whole year

… well, at least I've been good for most of the year

…… that is, for much of the time this year

……… or shucks, at least for some of the time.

Hmmm… just forget it. I'll be an Elf this Christmas!
smiley

lol Love this! maybe next year I will help the elves I will keep learning!
dear santa, i have hit a brick wall with my maternal great gran, millard-2673. i would love to find out more especially her dad. thankyou.merry xmas.
Benette's wish will be 152!
Hope everyone Christmas wishes come true Merry Christmas All

I would like Santa to find someone who can help me sort out the parents of my 2nd great grandfather William Macklem (Macklem-93) from Ontario, Canada. I know which couple he belongs to but I’m not sure if they are his parents or his grandparents. I have access to the DNA results from multiple family members including a cousin who is one generation closer to William than I am. We match plenty of people on Ancestry & GedMatch (& elsewhere) who are Macklem descendants but who are not descendants of our William. I just need some help on how to analyze all the data to come up with an answer.

P.S. My brother does not match the Macklem yDNA s so we likely descend from a female Macklem, so the possible connection on William’s WikiTree profile will likely need to be changed.

Dear Wikitree Elf,

This is one that has stumped me for a long time, looking for proof of the parent(s) of Robison-1294, If that is not doable, then immigration, marriage, or any leads to bring this back on more generation.

I have been a good Wikitreer this year :-)

It would be nice Xmas present if any more information can be found for my wife's 2nd great grandmother: Sarah Lucinda (Hood) Burmood (1838 - 1927). Specifically, finding her parents would be fantastic. But I don't even have a marriage record yet, or anything before 1870, which is after her marriage and kids have come along.

Dear ‍♀️

I would love help proving that Hanasak (Maupin) Welch (abt.1824-1881) wasn’t born under a rock. I have searched for years and have no parents or siblings.

I should add that she is not the Hannah Maupin; daughter of Thomas G. and Nancy (Harris) Maupin. That Hannah went out west to Monroe, Missouri. Mine never left Kentucky. There are people on Ancestry and Familysearch who conflate these two women.

Thanks in advance,

Pam

Santa baby, slip a present under the tree, for me. Been an awful good girl……

If you please, I would like a helping hand with my great grandmother, Smith-278599. Smith isn’t difficult at all, is it?

Her husband’s ggg grandfather (my gggg grandfather) is elusive, also. So if you could find a foothold for me to climb that portion of the tree I’d be ever so grateful. Chapman-869.

I’ll have cookies and milk waiting or if you prefer, a nice steak and a good whiskey.

Dear WikiTree Elves,

For Christmas, I would love if someone with England or DNA knowledge (or both) could look at this profile https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Goldstone-105 and see if any more information can be found about her and who her parents might be.

Any help would be appreciated,

Lisa

Dear Santa,

I'm looking for the parents of my great-grandmother Mary Hall (abt. 1880 - aft. 1940) or any information about her family. My mother told me that she was half Choctaw. I've looked through the Dawes Rolls, but didn't find a petition for her to join the Choctaw Nation.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Dear Tomten (Swedish Santa),

I wonder if you can help me use DNA to prove or disprove that the father of parentless Axel Pettersson was Axel Odelberg, using the DNA tests we already have taken or giving me practical help in the steps I have to take to learn this.

Thank you!

Dear Santa,

I've been trying to figure out my Polish line for a few years now.  So far, I've only been able to put together a few pieces.  Basically, my 2nd great-grandparents and beyond.  I have a free space page that goes into more detail about what I've found and not found.

I would love if you could help me discover anything more about my Polish relatives.  I've built out so many temp trees on ancestry of Kurdyla families, in hopes that some hint would come up and connect them to mine.  So far, nothing solid though.

Thanks Santa!
Caroline :)

I would like someone to dive into the 1810s birth records of San Pietro a Maida to help me find the birth record for Concetta Nistico and find her parents. Bonus points if you can find her marriage in the Processetti. You will probably have to go to a Family history library OR an affiliate in order to see the records in San Pietro. Good luck and happy hunting!

Dear Daidí na Nollag (Irish Santa),

I've been mostly good this year and hope you'll turn a blind eye on minor lapses. If you happen to fly over Ireland, would you find my 2ggf (Murphy-28411) and 3ggf (Murphy-28435)?

I'd like to find out which part of Ireland they came from. They were in Chelsea, Middlesex, England, in the 1851 census, and all I know is that they were born in Ireland. I also don't have death records for either one.
(DNA listed on my profile)
Thank you for any help!

Dear Santa and Mrs. Santa,

Perhaps your own 2nd or 3rd great grandparents saved some lists of children they delivered presents to in the 1820s.

I would really like to find out the maiden name of my 2nd great grandmother Sarah Ann (Unknown) Morey (1815-1875) before her marriage to Benjamin Shaw Morey (1810-1890). There is plenty of information about other Moreys but she remains a mystery to me before her marriage. I have seen the hints copied from multiple trees on other sites that call her Sarah Anne Orton but none provide any sources.

I am wondering if she was a “Morey” before she married a Morey. In what I believe is her obituary she is only identified as “Mrs S.A. Morey, wife of B.S. Morey, mother of W.B. Morey” even “Mrs. Morey was born in Batavia, New York, on the 2nd day of April, 1815, and was married November 19th, 1838, at Darlington, Canada West.”

“Ann” as a middle name was added from the Find A Grave memorial (ID 110746927) of her son David Gustin Morey.

Thank you Santa and Mrs Santa and any of your ancestors who might have remembered this child. Thank you to the elves for searching through their files for this Sarah Ann.

I think she would be on the Nice list but check the Naughty list too (just in case).

hello Elves! please could someone find out what happened to my 1st cousin 4 times removed Thomas Williams born 1849 in Morriston, Glamorgan. On my ancestry tree, i have that he migrated to the US and died in Pennsylvania 1903, but i am thinking that is incorrect and a different Thomas Williams. he does not show up in the 1871 census in Pembrey Carmarthenshire where his parents and siblings are. i last have him in 1861 at 3 woodbrook terrace, Pembrey, carmarthenshire, Wales. his parents are John Williams and catherine clement. thankyou for any help.

Wish 16!
I am also looking for a Williams-109551 whose father was from Britton. When I line up genetic matches' trees, I see Williams were moving around various towns and cities in England and in Wales. There was new work in Wales in the mid-1800s that caused people from England to move there. Our Williams could very well be related. There were a lot of them, and they kept moving. For a while there, I thought mine was from Wales, but once I saw all the movement and realized I had too little DNA from Wales (2% and on the wrong side of my tree), then I ruled that out.
this 2022 wish has now been solved as of yesterday 21 Dec 2023! my suspicions were correct. Thomas died in 1869 and did not emigrate to the USA.

My biggest wish is to find the parents of my 3rd great-grandfather, Jonathan Merritt (Merritt-1191). I really want to find out where my surname came from.  He is from Sampson County, North Carolina and later settled in Thomas County, Georgia.  Southern research is hard during this time period.

I hope this counts as just one wish... Re: Jacob C. Adam (ca 1857-1921): I believe I know the month and year of his birth (but not the day), have an educated guess about his birthplace, know his father's name (though I'm not positive about the middle name Heinrich)... but that's about it. I have been totally unable to find any German records of his or his sister's birth or anything to do with his parents. Those are what I'd like Santa to pull out of his sack for me!

For over 20 years I have been fascinated by a story of a Native American marriage with one of the Lyon grandfathers, primarily Walton Delaware New York area 1860’s. The claim is from my husband’s grand- mother Helen Josephine Osborne (Ward) through her mother Flora Maria Ward (Lyon) 1864 1946. In 3 generations of Flora i have found few Lyon grandfathers with this possible history, no evidence or DNA. Most males seem ruled out by dates though there could be prior unlisted marriages. Wakeman Lyon 1799 1883 appears to have had at least 3 marriages and 2 children. Possibly Flora was placed with an alternate Lyon family. Helen Osborne’s son is pending further DNA testing. I am still trying member connect and related trees and need help with further information on Wakeman Lyon-7764 whose family is unclear. If this mystery could be explained all my family search hopes would be  realized. My wish is for advice on how to continue as I will never give up!  Thanks  Anne White

Dear Secret Santa Elf,

I would be over the moon to learn the LNAB for my gg grandmother, Letitia (Unknown) Roberson (abt.1817-aft.1872). I've searched for a marriage record but haven't been able to find anything. Therefore, if a nice Elf would be willing to take the challenge, I would be most grateful!  I've been so so good this year too, btw ;)
