I wanted to share this family photo of a letter written by James McCown with the community. Location: Charleston, Kanawha, West Virginia, United States. Date: 7 Jul 1892.

Thank you for showing us another of your incredible pieces of history. Is it written on the employer's letterhead or is there another story behind it? James must have been quite an interesting person. You are fortunate to have all these well-preserved pieces.

Based upon the context of his other letters that I have (or had) and that he mentions the proprietor’s name in this letter I conclude it was his boss’s letterhead.

James was a young man seeking his way in the world and hope to escape what was (because of the railroad he was working for) a increasing bypassed part of the country economically.
