Saturday Sourcing Sprint! (18 March 2017)

Hi WikiTreers! 

Join in on this week's 24-hour Saturday Sourcing Sprint!

It's basically a casual mini Source-a-Thon.

When it's Saturday where you are, get sourcing! (And quit when it's Sunday :D )

You only need to answer the post once in this thread, and just edit your post to add your new profiles, continuing in a comment on your answer as necessary. See the Sourcerers Challenge for examples.

 

* All profiles improved must come from the Unsourced categories  or be already present on WikiTree and unsourced - you cannot create new profiles and add sources just to up your tally. The hope and goal is to improve the numbers already on WikiTree that need sources.  Another great source of unsourced profiles is to check out orphaned profiles.

* The tally is of profiles improved, not sources added. That said, if you can add a number of sources to a profile, all the better. 

* If you attempt to add sources to a profile and just cannot find any, please add a note under a section like == Research Notes == giving where you tried to find records and you can sign it with the four tildes (~~~~) so the date is applied as well. Something like "Looked for John in the US Census records for 1900-1940 and couldn't find him on FamilySearch or Ancestry" would be fine. Or, "Searched google for an obituary and didn't find one." That way the next researcher knows where to start.

* If the only source on a profile is "Ancestry tree" or "Geni.com" it can count as unsourced, and you can add better sources to it to count in your tally.

* If you find a match and can merge a profile into an already sourced profile, that counts too. You still found a source, plus you eliminated a duplicate.

I'm going to continue with the orphaned Brenton/McGee family that I worked on last week. I'm pretty sure I found the 1850 and 1860 records for his brother and maybe hers too. Just ran out of time on Saturday to verify and get them sourced.

I didn't get the Brenton family finished before midnight because that Baucom rabbit hole happened. I noticed a line in my Family Activity Feed saying that Robin Lee had updated Joseph. Unfortunately, the update locked the profile. I was able to track down his wife's obituary which said he had predeceased her; contacted the WIkiTree team to get the pre-2011 death recorded and open the profile, then sourced Joseph, Eula, and Debra.

Whoever added that gedcom dumped in a BUNCH of potentially living people. I adopted this whole twig and set the privacy to red on the ones that still need research. I'll research and open them as soon as I can find sources. Meanwhile, other twigs on that branch need the same treatment but I'm only one person.

By the way, for those that wonder ... I don't source for the points or recognition. I source for the skills it teaches me, for the joy of the research, and for the hope that someday somewhere someone will be glad to find these profiles that were dumped in and then abandoned but that can now be identified and possibly provide clues to missing family members.

Savage didn't have any sources in the profile so I added a couple to it.

Savage-1379  Marriage Certification added and no location for death so I added the location based on the Find-A-Grave Memorial.

I've been sourcing in the Talcott/Goodrich family lines.  No surprise:  several little girls were baptised Sarah, so I'm plugging through!!

3  David Goodrich. (Sourced birth record naming parents David and Hepsipah)

4   Goodrich-525  Sarah (Goodrich) Bissell. (Sourced Sarah's marriage to David Bissell)

5 Goodrich-1923 Sarah Goodrich Talcott ; hooray found her parents in Wiki and connected her, too!

6 Talcott-209 Sourced Rachel Talcott Hale's marriage.  

I agree with earlier comments:  sourcing helps me improve my abilities -- asking the right question, looking at the options and approaches. Finding the RIGHT answer, the considered answer takes time.

Finding sources & fitting the families together is SO rewarding! I struggle to source 10 or so a week, cuz I usually get sidetracked running down rabbit holes chasing connections & adding sources to profiles already sourced. But every source added makes the WikiTree stronger & healthier. Thanks for helping!
