One Husband Too Many?

Sourcing may not be finished even when you find a source...

Lydia Goodrich was born in Wethersby  3 November 1751. Barbour Collection (Wethersby TR) confirms source.

At age 20, Lydia GOODRICH marries Appleton Holmes 14 November 1771. Barbour Collection (Glastonbury AND Rocky Hill TRs) confirms sources.

But oops. Profile names a second husband, Samuel Warner, with marriage date 3 December 1678, 3 years before she married . No source in this profile, but in Samuel's profile is given as a source The Goodrich Family in America (see archive.org, page 67). The Lydia in this book is the subject Lydia-379 of this question. That book is not sourced.

Lydia Goodrich Holmes died 7 February 1810 (familysearch.org) and is buried in Old Eastbury Cemetery in Glastonbury (Find A Grave). Her gravestone recites that she died in her 60th year, which is a year off her given birth year of 1751. In Feb of 1810, she should be in her 59th year. Convincing evidence that this is our Lydia, is that she is buried in Glastonbury, where she was likely married.Further, our Lydia had a brother Ozias who was born and died in 1750, and buried with Lydia is a son, Ozias Holmes, named in her brother's honor.

The Goodrich Family is the only reference to a marriage to Samuel Warner I have found. I have searched his name in familysearch, ancestry, americanancestors, The American Genealogist, and NEGHS, and found no record of a marriage to our Lydia. Further, her marriage to Appleton Holmes is indexed in two separate town records under her LNAB, Goodrich. Had there been a marriage to Samuel Warner before her Holmes marriage, it was have been indexed under Lydia Warner.

I want to disconnect Samuel Warner as a husband to Lydia Goodrich Holmes. Have I made my case?

The Goodrich Family in America, it is not without mistakes, if I had followed the genealogy in that book then one of my ancestors would have been married at 9 and produced children at 10, err no, Something was obviously  wrong there, took me years to sort out, but finally found the right ancestor.

so I would disconnect him, and maybe add a note to the effect that the Goodrich family in America has him as a spouse of Lydia Goodrich
