Can a better job not be done to eliminate duplicate profiles??

I know those adding new profiles are required or should search for profiles already in existence of those they wish to add, and I know that sometimes the original profiles do not show up in a cursory search, BUT can a better job, or app or something, not be developed to prevent the constant duplication of profiles? I am getting requests to merge so frequently on my profiles that it is getting to be time consuming to check, compare, and merge. Some of the profiles have MANY profile managers - who can disconnect profile managers when they are so numerous? Maybe pare them down to those who are connected by dna? Just a thought.

I share Carolyn's concern with the barrage of duplicate profiles created, but my main reason for commenting concerns the  "paring down" of profile managers.  I personally would retain the profile managers that contributed the most to quality sources, and a well written biography.    The managers that made the most contributions of their time and skills would be most likely to continue making contributions at that level.

Just a thought.

The system did it's job.  The matches were offered as duplicates. For whatever reason they were rejected. Short of eliminating freewill in choosing to reject a match,  I'm not sure there is a way to eliminate the creation of duplicates.

Merges are the only way we have to eliminate the duplication. I removed the matches and proposed merges for the duplicates.  Perhaps more education on how to decide when to reject a match?

It looks like the system may have missed this one because the dates were too far apart to be detected as a match.
