George John Roeth and sister Anna Margaretha Roeth emigrated from Baden Wuerttemburg Germany on the vessel "Catteaux Wattel" arriving in Syde Australia 1855. They may have been accompaniued by their parents Adam Roeth and Barbara Roeth (nee Schmitt). Also emigratad on the "Catteaux Wattel" were George John Roeth (probably known as John Adam) and Adam John Roeth (probably known as (Johan G).

My name is Bob Starling from Australa and I have taken on the roll of researching the Roeth family in Australia.

Bob,

I have other family in Australia, but unfortunately not from this connection. Anna Roeth that I have emigrated to the US and my trail ends with the Roeth/Roth in Germany.

Good luck in your search.

Bob,

I typed a lengthy history of the Roeths in answer this morning which took a couple of hours to do. The box response would not let me add the answer, kept coming up with maximum 8000 words but my response was not 8000 words. Very annoying because I have now lost what I had researched to send you.

There is a  great deal of information on the Roeths of Singleton, NSW, Austraila, who are the decendents of George John Roeth, he may or may not be the son of Adam roeth and Barbara Roeth though as I cannot locate birth records for him in Australia or Germany. Do you have access to a birth certificate for him which records more detail?

I am interested in Anna Margaretta Roeth sister to George. George did arrive 1855. But no information for family on passenger list. Plenty of family trees repeat the information about them and parents Adam John and Barbara Schmitt. But I cannot find any actual documents from the time.

Hello again, Bob

Thanks for your message. I am not related to the Roeths but came accross a pile of information which may assist you and your family by chance.  Will try to capture it for you.

George John Roeth b.1833 d.1911 NSW Australia (Registered Death 7119) Fathers first Name = Adam and Mothers Name = Barbara.

Spouse of George John Roeth was Charlotte Lottie Taylor b.1841 d.1913 their Registration of their marriage Number 02433, they married on 12 March 1858 in Gresford, Paterson River. At that time George was described as a Labourer from Caewarra, Paterson River, he was aged 26 was a Bachelor born in Germany. His father Adam was a Labourer and the occupation of Barbara was not privided. Charlotte Taylor was 17 years old when they married and she was the daughter of Robert Taylor and an unlisted Mother. Her fathers occupation is given as a Swayer (I am not familiar with that term)  Interestingly the Witnesses to the marriage are given as Georg Roeth (note the Georg without the "e") and Margareta Roeth.  I am not convinced from records available that George John Roeth had a sister called Anna Margaretha Roeth, I believe that he had a brother called Peter Roeth who married in Germany and had a daughter of that name. But your research may uncover other facts.

On Charlotte Taylor 1841 -1941

There is uncertainty as to her father (so recommend further checking) but the most likely is Robert Taylor is b.1817 in Cork, Ireland.  He immigrated at the age of 19 on 13 November 1836 as a convict, arrived on the Captain Cook 3. He could read and write, was a Roman Catholic, Single, Occupation was a Caster. Offence was Hosue Robbery. Date of Trial was 12.3.1836 No former offences, he was 5'71/2" tall. Rubby freckled completion, ligt brown hair and grey eyes.

Her mothers name is possibly Mary of Aboriginal Birth in Gresford, NSW Australia, but cannot locate any records as the birth may not have been recorded and there is no surname. Additionally there may have been no marriage.

George John Roeth 1833-1911 and Charlotte Taylor 1841-1913 had many children, interestingly many of their children married into the Hedges Family and sadly their are many recorded infant deaths in each decendant family line.

The Children were;

Elizabeth Roeth b1858 d 6 Jan 194 in Singleton. First marriage to John Carter Hedges in 1880, they had two children John George Hedges 1881-1956 and Matilda A Hedges 1882.  Her first husband died at the age of 25 on the 28 November 1882. In 1886 she then marries a Stephen Thomass Hedges b1855 d1933 and they had 7 children, Sophia b1886, Florence S b1889, Fosy Evelyn b1891 d1968, Lottie Myra b1893, Arthur S b1896, Sidney A b1899 d1902 aged 3, Melinda P b1902.

will post more children of this couple when can locate the other records - there were 11 or 12 of them on some records I found earlier today and lost...

Hi Amanda

Thank you for the data on te Roeth family. Could you inform me of the source of the data on Charlotte Taylor and her aboriginee heritage?

Regards Bob Starling Roeth Family Historian

Source was in my first answer with links to the Ancestory.com.au site was the one  I lost I lost earlier.

One of the family trees had notes attached to Charlotte (Lottie) Taylor which stated this. Another for the Hedges Family tree of Singleton  also linked through all the Meissner family which you made reference to in your previous e-mail to me.  Do you have access to Ancestory? If I can find the links again I will post them.

Hi Robert, I know this is a very old thread but I just came across this searching family history with my son. My Grandfather was George Hedges a descendant of the Roeth family. I would love any information/history you may have. My 9 year old is fascinated by family history.

Regards,

Michelle

I know this was nearly 3 years ago but my father was telling me our family tree and the Roeths came up. I can tell you that the father John Adam Roeth, 1818 - 1912, at least brought one son here to Australia named Adam John Roeth, 1846 - 1922, (we have a belief that they changed their names not sure if thats true these are just the names on their grave stones) who married Julia Ann Dunn, 1854 - 1937. We've found record of George Roeth but nothing substantial as well as Anna Margaret who died in Singleton 1875 and married Michael Meissner but I know alot more about the descendants of Adam John Roeth as I am one.
