Czech Project

Would anyone be interested in joining A Czech Project?

The objective of the Czech Project would be to use the collaborative powers of WikiTree to collect, organize, and trace the information of Czech families into one location.

To trace families alive today in the US back to  regions in Bohemia & Moravia where they originated.

Define Standards for names and correct  languages to use. Our numbers of Czech profiles are growing & would be nice to get them organized into a group now.

If you are interested please let me know. If you have other ideas to add to the project I'd love to hear them.

I have been impressed with:

http://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:Nederlands_Portaal_%28Dutch_Portal%29

it would be good if a Czech project could eventually come up with something like that.

Hopefully we will eventually have projects for most main languages.

Yes, the netherland portal is very nice. Unfortunately, there aren't enough Czech speakers to support it. Maybe in the future. smiley Good thing here is a lot of Czech's speak a good amount of English (or can read it and understand for the most part)

Awesome! I knew you would be interested!
Of course! I have always and will forever be interested in my Bohemian ancestors! I actually made Bohemian culture cards for a 6th grade project and still have them 8 years later!
I'd love to see them!

Are you interested in Slovaks too? My husband's grandparents seem to from the Slovak part of Czechoslovakia.
by Living Troy G2G6 Pilot (175k points)

Sharon It's not that we aren't interested in Slovaks. I set the project up to include present day Czech Republic. The records are seperated by present day countries. I figured lumping the two together would cause too much confusion.

I do know there's been some talk about adding Slovakia as a project.

If you need help researching your grandparents feel free to message me. smiley

Thanks, Michelle. My husband's grandparents are actually from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, but their surnames are are found in towns now in Slovakia. They immigrated to the United States in 1908.Any help would be welcome, as I don't know the Slovak langauage.

Sharon Troy Centanne aka Troy-204
Hi Sharon,

I can't see who you are grandparents are on your profile. Can you message me or post here the specifics? Name, Birth date, village, region, district , town (any one of these are helpful if you know it), immigration date?
Thanks, I am Troy-204,  married to Centanne-2.

Greg's mother is Hvozdovich-1and his maternal grandmotber is Borisz-3.

Let me know if you need to be on the trusted list to see these please .

Sharon
I looked at Borisz-3. Do you know the village or town by chance?
Sharon, my great-grandparents were from present-day Slovakia (then part of the Kingdom of Hungary), and I've had success finding them in church books at FamilySearch. I would be interested in a Slovak Roots Project.

I would be interested.  I am not sure how I can become involved, because I just started on Wikitree. Let me know. I have traced my family back to the Plzen region of the Czech Republic and am interested in the Czech immigrants to Kansas.
