Have you always wondered how to become an Arborist and help keep our tree healthy?

If you meet the following criteria, just respond to this G2G and we will get you started!

  1. An active Wiki Genealogist for at least 3 months with at least 1000 contributions.
  2. Able and willing to collaborate with and communicate effectively with other members.
  3. Able to add reliable sources to profiles on WikiTree.
  4. Enjoy merging profiles, and confident you can do this in an accurate and efficient manner, with a focus on accuracy over efficiency.
  5. Familiar with the Arborists project page and help topics on merging and duplicates on WikiTree; see Help Index.
  6. In the last month, have proposed at least 10 merges and completed at least 20 merges.
Once you have joined you will start off in our Skills Team. This is a self-directed team, where you work on activities which will build your confidence and competence in merging.
Our goal is to keep our tree healthy and teach others how to do the same.

You would be a great new member to our project.

Give us some time and we will add you :)

Hi,

I would love to join. These past few months, without actively looking for duplicate profiles, I have found many while working on improving the profiles on my watchlist, and working on the Data Doctors Project, and the Connectors Project (From what I have seen, unconnected profiles often have one or more duplicates). I find it very satisfying to merge profiles and add sources and new profiles if need be.

Thanks.

Hello G,

Let us take a look at your contributions and we will get back to you - but it looks like you'd be a great addition to the project :)
Thank you so much!

I really like the idea of not having duplicate profiles in the global tree, so I have been helping to get rid of duplicates on a regular basis for months now. Whenever I search for any name, I always sort by birth date and make merge requests for dups I find. I also regularly monitor my pending merges and follow up to try and complete all of them.

Now that I know that the arborists project covers this type of work, I would like to join please.

Hi Sarah,

Would I be able to become an Arborist. I haven't done many merges over the past month but I've done heaps over the past year. The Skills Team sounds like an excellent idea to me.

Hi David, sorry about the delay in responding to your post about becoming an Arborist. I'll follow up with you by private message.

Hi, thanks Robbie and Mitchell for your interest in joining as an Arborist. I'll follow up with you both by private message.

Hi,

I find myself doing so many merges (mainly for duplicates of old Norwegian profiles) that I'd like to join this project :)

Hi R, thanks for your expertise with Norwegian profiles, and for your interest in becoming an Arborist. I'll follow up with you by private message.

I'd like to join the Arborists. I'm also a Data Doctor, Connector and Sourcerer. I love finding duplicates, proposing and completing merges. I recently went through an alpha list of the entire Perkins family (12,000+) profiles and was able to propose merges for quite a few. I've proposed at least 20 merges and completed more than that many merges this month so far.
by Traci Thiessen G2G6 Pilot (295k points)

That's my favorite way to find merges--going through an entire surname list. You're so awesome, Traci!smiley

Hi Traci,

Fantastic that you want to join the Arborists. Sorry to take so long to get back to you. I'll follow up with you by private message.

I would love to be a member of the team!  I believe I have met all of the criteria.  I have proposed and completed many merges now, but I don't have an exact count!  Is there a WikiTree report that can give that?

Please let me know what should be the next step!

Thanks,

Bart

Hi, Bartley!

As you might have guessed, we're a bit behind in welcoming new Arborists to the project! laugh

I'll be in touch via private message.

Thanks for volunteering!

I would like to become an arborist.  I am very interested in the merging process since I believe it really is a great tool for combing profiles to add additional sources to improve the health of our trees.

Thanks

I just got asked on G2G whether I was an arborist so I guess it's about time I put my hand up. I think I meet the criteria. I've just checked my contributions list and over the last month I've proposed 23 merges, completed 20 and tidied post merge another 4.

Does that count?
