As of 12 June, 2019 - we have Myself, Graeme and Campbell registered to participate in this Connect-a-thon.

Anyone else?

Robynne temp add "New_Zealand" to the tags to expand the pool of targets smiley

Yes, I have just signed up too.
Thanks Graeme and Charlene
Joining in on this. Probably the one occasion where I can actually add a stack of points to the team tally
Cool. Thanks Richard!!!!
I’ve signed up too. My focus will probably be quality and checking on duplicates, rather than speed and numbers.

G'day, g'day .. the Wizards of Aus (aka Team Australia) wish you all the best for the coming 'thon.  As time draws ever nearer, are you all as excited as we are?  We're planning on wizarding up a storm.  How about you?

Let's all have fun adding well sourced profiles!

You'll need that storm!!!

Hands across the sea and all .. I may yet be adding some Kiwi folk alongside my Aussies (I'll need to check my list).  I do that fairly regularly .. last ones were emigrants from Scotland via Australia.  'sall good!

It's all for the greater good of the Tree!  :)

Oh and the official registration page is now CLOSED!!!!

It was awesome everyone thanks for participating, all the great work and congratulations from team Flying Dutchmen (and women) - Vliegende Hollanders  !

Enjoy some well deserved sleep or rest, have a wonderful week and hope to see you all again next thon ! laugh

Does anyone know who Mabear is?

They signed up for the Kiwi crew but they appear to have been logged out of WT at the time.

The IP address does give their ISP as sparkbb dot co dot nz

Does anyone know who this person might be?

Thanks.
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
Now that’s interesting. I saw that name on a genealogy or history FB page in the last couple of days. I’ve done a bit of a search but can’t find him - I’m sure he was male. I’ll keep looking.
At the Clean-a-thon registration page, Mabear appears there, I tracked the Ip address and the location was my Town!! And again Mabear is back except the Ip address is from Dunedin, someone playing silly buggers, I say
Found the last time, Clean-a-thon registration page 15
They could be a student attending Otago University or Teachers College or Otago Polytechnic or even high school.

I would not call them silly buggers yet.....
OTOH if they keep signing up without actually joining WT - then they are playing games with us which is annoying....
Well the mystery of mabear has finally been solved - but she will NOT be missing out on the tournament.

She finally sent me a PM (on 11 July).

It turns out to be Norma Crozier!!

She lives in Mosgiel, just outside of Dunedin!!
I have sent a request to Eowyn to see if we can have Norma added as a last minute attendee since she was registered, she just wasnt logged in. Still waiting to hear back.
Good news !!

Norma Crozier HAS BEEN ADDED to the Kiwi crew team for the connect-a-thon.

Thanks to Eowyn!!

Less than 1 hour before the connect-a-thon starts!!!

For the record - just so you all know - Daren Kellett has chosen to go with the Windsor Warriors team for the Connect-a-thon.

Good luck Darren!!

They need the help!
There are lots of New Zealanders in that team, lol

Hello lovely people! I just joined, I somehow missed this in my inbox so count me in -- no accidental travelling this time. ;)

Hi Tracey,

Apologies for the silence, I have been busy elsewhere, but I am now free and clear for the connect-a-thon!!

You have the badge so you are all set to go.

The rule is to find any unconnected and/or orphan profile and find a minimum of 1 source so that you can connect it to another profile that is already connected to the tree.

You can start off with those unconnected profiles on your own watchlist - and then you can do the unconnected NZ profiles that will be listed on the Kiwi Crew page.

Sorry Team Im going a bit slow - got back from Fiji 1am Saturday morning (3am before I got some sleep ) and havent really got the missing sleep back yet - trying to not do too many head plants into the keys - THUMP :-)
by Graeme Olney G2G6 Pilot (143k points)
Graeme, if you need to sleep, then you go get some sleep!!!
Graeme, I’ve been trying to connect the unconnected Murchison earthquake victims. It’s been super frustrating. I think I’ve connected another one - and have created a whole bunch of unconnected profiles. They looked really promising too with unusual names etc.

Time stamp - 10 PM Sunday NZT

Sorry I have been AWOL - I kind of found this Thon hard to get into. It is especially hard to actually FIND ANY ONE to connect to, on the global tree.

Right now it is Sunday and we are now almost at the end of day 2 - going into day 3.

So how are you all doing? I see that we are all at least on the board. If we can keep doing what we are doing, and finish in the middle of the teams, i will be happy. Also if we can manage to get at least 1000 profiles connected as a minimum team total, that would be nice as well.

I see that Darren is speeding ahead for the Windsor warriors. The Windsor warriors team have almost 5000 profiles connected - although whether they are actually going to be added to the global tree overnight is another question.

Thanks to Charlene, Campbell and Maxx who have all broken 100 profiles connected.

Keep up the good work.

Catch you later.

Robynne

Been away from the computers all day, got home around 9:30pm

Will be hitting the hay shortly, I've got a decent scope avaliable to work from which will be actually connected profiles
I’ve just about finished adding all the children I “prepared earlier”. I’ll finish those this afternoon. I still haven’t made any connections which is a little surprising. If I have time, I’ll take one of the unusual surnames and see if I can connect that twig. (I haven’t done as much as planned - it’s too hard on an iPad and the computer is in a cold office.)

Weekend Chat - we have no weekend chat this weekend due to the Connect-a-thon, but I still have something I want to mention.

My sister did her DNA test last month (June) and I just got her results back today!! Yes I know its the weekend but still, I got the results today!!!

I ran the autoclusters (from my heritage) tool (this is like the thru-lines from ancestry) and I am getting some very interesting results!!

My sister also has some names that are showing up much closer to her than they are to me. Now I have to find their trees. The problem is that one family has a tree on My Heritage which is PRIVATE!!!! And noone is answering my email. So frustrating.

I have also just had a small sleep (4 hours) and I see that we have connected just over 1000 profiles.

Way to go Kiwi crew!!

Very well done!!
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
This "Connect-a-Thon" is more like a profile-a-thon, according to others, It doesn't matters how many profile you connect to the world tree, its about how many you can add to existing profiles and then try and connect them, the scoring system is wrong in this connect-a-thon
I agree with you, Campbell. I’ve just made a whole lot more unconnected profiles. I’ll need to run a personal bio-thon to fix them all up!
I also note that some of our esteemed ex-members are adding dubious sources like FamilySearch trees. Luckily, I’m not the competitive type.
Yes. I have quite a number of unconnected islands as well, some of which i have been adding more profiles to - but I am unable to find a connection to the global tree!!
It's definitely more like a profile-a-thon. When I read that we were going to be getting points for adding profiles rather than for connecting profiles I decided early on that I would work on adding collateral branches of my family. So far I have managed to connect up approx ten previously unconnected branches mostly via spouses. If we were getting points for connections only I reckon those top scorers would be well under 100.

The Nor"Easters would like to offer congratulations on weathering the Connect-A-Thon. It was a big success adding many profiles to the tree and we had lots of fun. We also now have a huge spotify playlist to listen too while working on WikiTree. We were glad to have your team onboard in the effort.

Thank you to those who participated in the Connect-a-thon.

I would especially like to say thank you to Charlene, Maxx, Campbell and Richard, for getting to or over 100 profiles  connected, in order to keep the team afloat in the storm!!

Thank you all for a great effort.
by Robynne Lozier G2G Astronaut (1.3m points)
You did too, Robynne. Thanks for leading us.
