*US general land office records, 1796-1907: http://search.ancestry.com/collections/1246/records/1623577

* 1820 US census: https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XHGS-RVK & http://search.ancestry.com/collections/7734/records/1345388

*Hill, N. N. (Norman Newell), History of Coshocton County, Ohio : Its Past and Present, 1740-1881: Containing a Comprehensive (Newark, Ohio : A.A. Graham, 1881) (page numbers to be added later)

This is what it looks like when I view the profile:

All your Ancestry links are behind a pay wall. Those without a subscription to Ancestry will not be able to see them.
The current problem is that Ancestry links trigger ad blocking software. All WikiTree users should disable ad blockers or whitelist wikitree.com.

Some of the answers below give advice on disguising Ancestry links so they will bypass the ad blocking filters.
Thanks so much for the help and the explanation!  It looks like I have to go back to a lot of profiles and update the Ancestry.com links I've added over the past few years.  I guess I'll have no problem reaching 1000 contributions next month, LOL!

Susannah, I think just using one of the coding buttons will solve your problem so the link shows. If someone has access behind the pay wall they will get to it. If they do not, they will not gain access to the data.

Go to Edit mode. Place your cursor after this: Ohio homestead and cash patents, pre-1809:   Then, click the link symbol which is above the profile bio box and under the words Edit Text. That will insert this [  ] after pre-1809:   Then paste the entire link between the brackets. Then Save.

Once you have saved you will see Ohio homestead and cash patents, pre-1809: [1]   The number in the brackets will depend on which link this is in sequence. When the bracketed number is clicked it should take you to the linked information.

Susannah, see the answers below. I noticed when I tried to fix these in the profile the ad blocker problem surfaced.

There is a template for linking to Ancestry Records which as I understand it, makes the link to the record more secure. Here's the page that explains it all.

https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Links_to_Ancestry

If you can, please transcribe as much of the record as possible into the profile you're working on to help those who don't have an Ancestry Subscription, and in particular note those facts that support whatever genealogical point you're making!

The problem is your browser's/computer's adblocker. There have been several posts regarding this issue, including https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/837156/why-are-ancestry-links-not-showing-on-a-profile?show=837156#q837156

The current work-around is either to use the Ancestry templates or to preface the Ancestry links with the following text:

https://prf.hn/click/camref:1011l4xx5/destination:

Note that some Ancestry links from the old GEDCOMs may no longer be valid. And most valid links will be behind the paywall, as Chris states.

Hi Susannah,

For a month or so (maybe longer), there has been an issue with ad-blockers blocking display of links to Ancestry.com in WikiTree profiles. If you use an Ancestry External Link Template, the issue appears to be avoided at this time. In your case, you could replace the 2 links being suppressed by {{Ancestry Record|2077|35922}} and {{Ancestry Record|1246|1623577}}. In any case, an Ancestry.com subscription is required to see those records,

For GLO records, I'd suggest searching the public GLO web site directly, and citing that as a source with the link to the publicly viewable record there. I believe this is the corresponding image of the land record (your 2nd Ancestry source link). It's always better to use publicly available sources when possible.

While you can likely disable your ad-blocker to be able to see the Ancestry links in your own browser, that won't help all the other viewers of the profile that have ad-blockers enabled. Also using an Ancestry External Link Template can future-proof the link. If in the future Ancestry changes their prefix structure for such links, the WikiTree development staff may be able to make a single change to modify the template and resolve all such related future broken links.

I also was able to follow the link successfully to the Ancestry record. Last week someone was kind enough to share how to provide the image from behind the paywall that supposedly everyone can see.

From the Ancestry record page, in the upper right hand corner is a link Share

When you click on that you get the option of Email, Facebook, Google+ or Twitter

It doesn't really matter which you select since we are after the link, not to actually post the link on social media. I usually select Twitter. A window will open that says something like "What's happening?" with the link. Just close it. Another box opens up that says you shared your discovery. There will be a link https://www.ancestry.com/sharing/etc.

Copy this link and in your source citation you can add the link. I usually put it at the end and use the "pretty" format.

[http://www.ancestry.com/sharing/etc Image] (after the link put a space and type the word Image or whatever you like, don't forget to close the bracket "]")

Hey Susannah

Here are some great instructions for generating links to ancestry files that were written by fellow Wikitreer Deb Durham.

Her step-by-step guide works great, and I use it all the time. It allows you to share ancestry.com images, and get's around the problem of ancestry.com's pay-wall.

Best of luck!
