7th cousin 3 times removed via Henry Howland Sr.  Connection Finder shows something entirely different at 14 degrees.

14 degrees, as well as 5th cousins 4 times removed (and a few others). I also have multiple relationships to her husband.

Tommy, I love your comment. I pasted my answer from the connection finder—didn’t plan on it coming up this big.

14 for me, through the Huntleys of the Connecticut Colony. Also 4th cousins 5 times removed, through Thomas Barnes of the Connecticut Colony.

I am also 14 degrees, and my connection also involves Connecticut people named Huntley.

Lucy Mack, the mother of prophet Joseph Smith is my 2nd cousin 7x removed via shared Huntley ancestry (and I recall that we also share some Gee ancestry).

And Emma (Hale) Smith is a 6th cousin 4x removed via a different set of Connecticut ancestors (Richard Platt-23).
Ellen - We're only 8th cousins, but apparently we have a lot of early NE immigrant ancestors in common 9, 10, 11 generations ago.
Yeah, 66 common ancestors in 15 generations is a pretty large number of ancestors on common.

I am almost surprised we don’t show up as autosomal DNA matches, due to our descent from the same population.
Maybe when the common ancestors are 9+ generations ago, the DNA has been chopped up and respliced so many times that any matching segments are quite short? I was just playing around on Gedmatch and found that we have no matches until you reduce the criteria for a match down to 3cms.

66 common ancestors within 10 generations (or even just 10 generations) are only a small fraction of our ancestries at that depth, so it is not reasonable to expect any DNA matches. However, I have several rather good DNA matches to people who map out as 8th cousins or so, with multiple shared ancestors in early New England and no indication of a more recent common ancestor, and I do believe that these DNA matches may be due in part to our sharing so many common ancestors drawn from the same population.

15 degrees. Seems a descendant married a Motley. Hmm. My great grandmother was a Motley. The relationship finder however says we're 14th cousins 5 x removed.

Emma and I are 13th Cousins, 5 times removed. Courtesy of Randal Mainwaring-11. His son William Mainwaring-15 is the route to Emma; and Randal's daughter Phillipa Mainwaring-308 Delves is the route to myself. Phillipa's grand dau married an Aston thence to Fielding, Rucker, Tinsley (which ties to my mother's Howell line) to Chaffin (which ties to my father's Huffman line) ...

TODAY, I looked again and it's telling me I am 11 degrees separated ... hmm ... didn't say that yesterday

So ALSO 11 degrees (due to a marriage of my Auntie Caroline Smith) to Denzil Follett etc
